Last season's top striker Thierry Henry was the first player chosen by many Fantasy Managers' for their 2005-6 team, but with the Arsenal hit-man out injured, many Managers may be looking for an alternative to lead their front line in his absence. Fantasy Stats are a good way of comparing who is banging in the goals and scoring the points. Top of the current strikers is Charlton's Darren Bent, with 40 points and 5 goals. Charlton's next 4 fixtures are West Bromwich, Tottenham, Fulham and Portsmouth. West Brom top the goals conceded table with 11, with Fulham on 9 goals conceded and Portsmouth on 7. Tottenham's defense has been resolute with only 3 goals conceded, but Charlton have the home advantage in this game. Middlesbrough striker Ayegbeni Yakubu has scored twice this season, but his team also has a run of winnable fixtures, starting with Sunderland at home, then Aston Villa, Portsmouth and West Ham. Yakubu has started the last 3 games and has scored in the last 2.
West Ham's Marlon Harewood, like Darren Bent, is another player who has made the step up from the Championship with ease. He has 30 points and 4 goals from 5 games. The Hammers' next fixture is a home game against Arsenal, then they play Sunderland, Manchester City and Middlesbrough. Another striker with 4 goals to his name, and maybe the one most likely to fill Henry's shoes, is Manchester United's Ruud van Nistelrooy. Van Nistelrooy missed many games last season through injury, so his 6 League goals in 2004-05 isn't a true reflection of his talent. United's next fixture is at home to Blackburn, then they play Fulham, Sunderland - who have conceded 10 goals so far - and Tottenham. Finally Chelsea's Didier Drogba is the second highest points scorer with 32 points and 3 goals. However there is an element of risk in picking any Chelsea striker as they are not guaranteed to start. Drogba has started 3 games, come off the bench 3 times, but only completed 90 minutes once. Chelsea have Aston Villa at home this weekend, then Liverpool, Bolton and Everton.
