  1. Why would you care, indeed.
  2. I just know that everyone here is frustrated to the breaking point.
  3. That's just it, I don't think the UK should fine BP. But Tony was asking how much the US Gov fined American companies for spilling offshore. In a perfet world at least, it seems the fines should be dictated by those who's oil is on their doorstep.
  4. However's go tthe ball, I just hope that they make good. The clear gulf is turning into the black sea.
  5. Are you listening, Tony, that's more to the point, are you listening? BP is responsible, has admitted responsibility, has assumed financial responsibility, and there is no denying that. Are you saying that Tony Hayward somehow has lost his mind? I don't know about global drilling stoppage, but the US has imposed a 6 month drilling halt. How much do you think the UK will fine BP for spilling it oil on US shores?
  6. Tony, you're right. The US governement is not in the oil business. So since BP spilled the milk, they have to clean it up. I understand that you want to wait for the investigation, however the investigation to determine reponsibility is over. Now comes the criminal investigation and the mountains of fines. Again, I'm not sure how you can defend BP's responsibility, but BP has publicly stated that it's their dropped ball. As long as the oil is still spewing, whatever they are doing is not enough.. period.
  7. I don't think I see your point. Are you saying why should we care about the gulf coast?
  8. I haven't heard anyone in either a press announcement, or any other government agency refer to BP as British Pertroleum, especially on a repeated basis. Not to say that it BP hasn't been refered to by it's proper name, I certainly haven't heard it.
  9. By that logic, the UK should have government reps onsite and offereing up just as much assistance and as BP themselves. Which if that's what's going on then dandy, but I've not read or heard anything about that. The fact is that as closely tied as oil companies are with governments, they are still private entities. As well if you want to see a real screwing, look for a documentary entitled, "Black Wave: The legacy of the Exxon Valdez". Devastating. On you not understanding why BP is ultimately responsible, give a call to Tony Hayward and let him in on the fact that he's poured mega bucks in funds towards a cleanup that's going nowhere. It's a moot point. In a lot of areas of this spill it's going to get a lot worse before it gets any better.
  10. On the emergency plan, that's more a question for Tony Hayward. I can forsee a lot more regulation in the future.
  11. Let me shake your hand, brother.
  12. If that's true, then they would have a proper emergency plan I feel. But hey didn't and here we are. Please show me where another oil company has had more violations in recent years, I would welcome the information.
  13. Letting them do what they want is the reason why we are having this discussion today. 1.2GBP per liter would have more to do with massive taxation than anything I would suspect.
  14. The world understands that accidents do happen, however when the offending party is responsible for a vast majority of the industry violations both inadvertant and willful, then it's gets dicey.
  15. Just to clearify, BP did try to shift the blame. See senate subcommitee hearings. Everybody blamed everybody else. I know what I want them to do, just as everyone else. Plug the hole. Plug the damn thing. Nobody cares how, nobody cares who, or how much. Just plug it up already.
  16. I would at least like to see a lot tighter regulation of all oil companies.
  17. Understood, but fromt he folks affected it gives the impression that they were drilling from the hip, all willi nilli, and if there were an accident then they would cross that bridge when they got to it. That's one of the most frustrating parts.
  18. If you're asking if I would be upset if the spill destroyed Newcastle instead of Grand Isle, then the answer is yes.
  19. I don't understand why folks are in denial about this. Everyone inclusing BP themselves has said that it's their problem. There's no more question, that time has passed. I want BP to do their job. Plug the hole already. This summer is destroyed as far as the people are concerned, but right now, the thing to do is to plug the hole. Plain and simple.
  20. Is that how you break it down, Brazil? To dismiss by asying that I'm following some sort of heard? You are absolutely correct in that it could have happened to another oil company, but the hard fact is that it didn't.
  21. I dont' want to blame the British, that's useless. I want the hole plugged, that's it. It's deeply disturbing to have this happen right in my back yard. You guys can toss around the "how is BP to blame" game, but I don't care an ounce about that. To me, BP has already admitted and accepted responsibility, so that point it moot. Why should i explain BP's role? If you want to know their role, call their hotline, they'll tell you all about it. On what Tony posted, it seems a pattern of thinking that because the USA uses a lot of oil then the gulf coast gets what it deserves. To me that's what that post eludes to.
  22. Let me get this straight Tony, are you saying out loud that you feel that not only is BP not responsible, but that the gulf coast deserves what it gets?
  23. I've lived in England, Wez, so abolutely.
  24. You know what I believe? I believe that my friends and family are in hell now. I also believe that the gulf region will be ruined for ages. That's what I believe. No disrespect Brazil, but with the outright anger that I and many others feel on this situation, I don't really care who you know or what corporate bullshit goes on behind the scenes. I just want the hole plugged, period.
  25. Pure armchair quarterbacking and a ridiculous statement. And actually Brazil, if you look into it further, the USA gives astronomical tax breaks to oil companies. Kiss those goodbye. Again, there's no getting away from this, it's BP's ultimate responsibility. Plug the damn hole, already. Actually the US is tied with Europe/Eurasia in oil consumtion. http://www.pimco.com/NR/rdonlyres/CCB53675-BF06-423E-977D-C234B2169387/1841/Chart3.gif
