Been follow this thread for a while and can't work out what the speed cut problem with the Autos is supposed to be. my J-spec Supra TT GZ Auto had speedo in MPH, ODO in MPH, Active spoiler working fine, Speed related PAS working fine, No cruise on mine (odd for a GZ but that's Jap options for you) all using one speed divider and Pete Betts website instructions. And my car was often over 120MPH (got it to 160MPH once), so why does the HKS SLD (for Auto) have 16 wires, and whay are they needed? Rich

I think it's so the cam timings can be set-up on a dyno to get the best out of other mods you have done.

Are you sure they use a UK Odo most places solder a connection in the back so it shows the "MILES" instead of "km" LED and just convert the read milage down, then use the same box they are using to convert the speedo to convert the Odo. It seems strange they would go to the expense of a UK Odo when a Jap one can be converted for virutally nothing. (maybe that's why their cars are so expensive)

Thread from US Forums, could be hearsay but I have seen it discussed before on there. Although it has been seriously pruned resently. http://www.supraforums.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=002412 (Edited by HardHead42 at 12:55 pm on Aug. 19, 2001)

I'm pretty sure it's why the guys in the US take the TRAC fuse out when they go drag racing. But I haven't seen an tech documents on it. Maybe it's worth someone checking it out with a multimeter to see if a singal is sent during shifts. Also it may only be on US spec cars and not on UK or Jap?

No worries, Ash. I found out what kind of delimiting JIC do as standard which just confirmed my decision to leave the car un-delimited and fit the HKS part myself sometime in the future. I won't be doing it right away so I'm in no immediate rush for the instructions. Paul: I *think* that the HKS devices "clamp" the speed sensor signal just below the limited speed so that for the majority of the time the ECU sees the "real" vehicle speed. The auto box version (according to Ash) has several more wires that allow it to talk to the auto box ECU as well, because that also needs to know how fast the car is really going. Darren Nevertheless, unless the speed signal is *only* used for limitation, the PPS and the cruise control, it's going to upset the EMU by changing its engine input parameters (RPM, etc.) but then telling it the speed hasn't changed (what a slipping clutch that would be). I'm gonna assume the UK EMU is different as it has to handle all the differences I'm identifying on a different thread and therefore the speed limitation is embedded in the EMU software. Anyone know what's really going on with the HKS SLD? I believe the PPS and Cruise use their own ECUs I just used the devided signal from the divider on my speedo and fed that to the ECU on the loom close to the ECU (ie no chance of the signal being used by one of the other boxes) and everything was fine.

If it is similar to the "MAX Air" box then the results comparing intake temps on this site may be worth a look. http://www.geocities.com/steve_jarvis_me/Airbox1/sld001.htm

Do you mean this post? http://www.rolec.co.uk/cgi-bin/ikonboard/topic.cgi?forum=3&topic=9 not about "intelligent manual", just Manual Mode

Is that RJ as in "I'm driving an Integra" RJ? Yes and the the answer is BLOODY loud. When blipping the throttle from the engine bay, perople used to comment how my hair used to stick up straight in the air when the pressure was released, because as I lent over my head was directly above the BOV, and I cthen couldn't hear what they were saying LOL. Matt (sorry didn't catch last name) will probably be able to tell you more once he has it fitted mine to his hardpipe.

"not all cars" as in cars have haven't been designed with camber adjustment like the MkIV has.
-
Definately, it will look good in that Trust A-Pillar Guage pod too. make sure you get 60mm guages.
-
When I bought my hoses from Leon he said they fitted both. I asked as I was considering a UK spec brake upgrade and didn't want to have to buy another set.
-
On my Supra you could definately tell the car was more stable at 120+MPH when it was lowered.

They replace all the rubber hoses in the Intercooler piping to silicone ones.

Samco do, Supra JZA80 06/96~ (5) Turbo TCS56 don't get them from DemonTweaks they will rip you off big time. You may be able to get them from HOSE DIRECT FAX: 01302 719235 TEL: 01302 711020 or Rally Design http://www.raldes.co.uk/

If your talking AUTO the rear brake calipers will loose grip on the discs and will start to spin brfore the gearbox blows up beleive me, launch tech. on AUTO is to keep your foot stomped hard on the brake with left foot, rev the engine upto about 2500rpm, then lift the brake off quickly and stomp hard on the accelerator pedal. Obviously keeping the brake on and revving to 2500 for too long is going to heat up the Trans. fluid so don't do it too often for too long.
-
That probably explains why the brakes on my 406 are 100x better than my Supe (Turbo + vacuum pump & reservoir) WHen your braking you should be off boost and should be getting vacuum anyway, unless you've got your foot down on both peddles which isn't going to do you stopping distances any good

The only thing I would add is that they are OK for spotting a very lean condition, so if you were to have problems while driving they would give you a visual warning of any major fueling problems. That said I tuned an FTO with a modified MAS (honeycombes removed) and a Apexi S-AFC with no problems. But then it's N/A and I was very careful (running slightly rich) But still managed to have the fastest 4 speed tip FTO at Santa Pod on it's first club outing betting all the higher speced models with variable valve timeing so something was going right

Put a diposit down on a Honda Integra Type R yesterday, took it out for a test drive by myself and it's quite quick, OK nothing compared to the Supra, but handled well however I chucked it around (probably my fatal mistake with the Supra I recon). Anyway should be able to afford it and insurance for now, never know may get another Supra some day (if the misses ever lets me) (one question, why did I start this thread on Tech, JB can you move it over to General or ChitChat for me?)
-
No offence to N/A owners but I think the Supra is a bit heavy (1500+kg) for the 225bhp N/A engine, I'd rather have a lighter car like the Honda Integra Type R with 190bhp and 1070kg in lightest trim, no ABS, no AirCon, (that said the one I am looking at has both ) It really comes down to personal preference in the end and I bought a Supra TT because it was Turbocharged.
-
Exactly what I did, but it reacted on the road completely differently (probably due to the difference in wheels and tyres).

>>where from Various places, most of the ones that are usually mentioned, still some to go but not looking good. Really gone off the idea of getting another one, I feel the only thing that could have been at fault was my driving and/or the road surface both of which I can do little about. So I am going to go for something I can chuck about a bit more without having to respect it as much as a 350bhp RWD. After all I've been driving FWD cars (both performance and not) like a looney for 8 years with out a single accident, get me behind a RWD and I'ge had two in 9 months. Come to the descission that to last long in a Supra you have to be one of three types of drivers, a GOOD one, a SLOW one, or a damn LUCKY one.

Toyota garage came back with a parts bill of 12.5K to fix the Supra and the garage with a labour bill of around 5K (not fixed because when the parts bill came in the ins. were going to write off anyway). I'm not buying the salvage back as they are talking about 5K for it, but I will try and find out where it's gone and post it up. Anyway looking for a non-Supra replacement (insuring it was going to kill me even a stock UK TT), so I'll have some performance parts for sale. I'll post them up later in the week. Rich (ex) FTO GR (ex) Supra TT Mirage Cyborg R Integra Type R (soon, maybe)

the 3K quotes were for UK spec
-
The only thing I like that I can aford to insure is a Honda Integra Type R (UK spec) I have been quoted sub 2K on one of those, so if I get a good payout on one I can get one and insure it. Ins. runs out on the 7th No I only had 4 years NBC but there was a cockup last year with the paper work and I ended up never getting NCB cover (before that we had one car under Teresa's name, and I lost the NCB I did have by not having insurance for a long time) :(
