That turned out to be the CAM Sensor. I had the AA transport mine to VT who sorted it the next day. I was advised to reprogram the alarm / immobilser as that can sometimes cause a similar problem??????????????????????????????????????????? ???? the last bit is interesting

and someone had the same problem...the dealership had to replace a faulty sensor that caused the car to block it from being able to start..... just googled volvo v70 wont start - it seems they can be a bitch for this Rich probably no help whatsoever

from another forum this type car has an immobilizer system.which has a chip in the key that must be recognizedby the immobilizer control unit before it will start.there could be a problem with the key,antenna ring (this is around the ignition lock and reads the keys chip)or a bad control unit.most problems are key or antenna ring.when it does this I would try another key and see if that one works.
