White creamy residue around filler cap is most times normal especially if car has been cold/damp. If coolant was leaking into engine side oil level wud go up and you would see evidence on dipstick I reckon ; coolant wud also go from rad. Rich

sounds absolutely like a wheel bearing to me. I had one like that on an audi quattro; left it and eventually it howled so loud I couldnt hear the radio lol Rich
