  1. No I'm talking about knock, det or pinging caused by lean afr's or high load at low rpm's. Don't want to be causing big end knock! The stethoscope can be easily run to the driver seat from the engine so I could listen while driving. Just curious if anyone had any first hand experience of this Thanks
  2. Evening Guys, What is the best way to go about inducing a small amount of knock? Would a low RPM high gear do it? Say 1200rpm in 5th and gently accelerating do this? If I was to do something like that in my daily I would feel a strong vibration and hear a buzzing noise when I tried to accelerate Reason I ask is a have an engineers stethoscope and wanted to hear what knock or pinging sounds like and if the stethoscope is actually working. Finally, would the pinging / knocking sound heard through the stethoscope from the engine made from a 5th gear 1200rpm acceleration sound the same as running slightly lean at WOT at higher RPM's? Thanks
  3. To save asking pretty much the same question I thought I'd revive this one As asked by Scott in post #11 - is that the best spot to get a det can mounted to? I can't remember when I had my manifold off if that bolt hole is in use by anything either. What do we think of this location? yaay or naay? Thanks
  4. Thanks Swampy, I have an aftermarket ECU and I just wanted to see if the engines ignition timing was the same as what the ECU thinks it is
  5. Evening Guys, There's a good few threads on ignition timing but I couldn't find any which mentioned an easy enough way to actually do it. Can anyone point me in the right direction for a quick how to? I know how to use the timing gun but I'm unsure of the best way to go about it on the supra engine. If there is a difference between the 2, I have the 2JZ GTE engine Thanks
  6. Evening Guys, Anyone here running the Link G4 plugin ECU in a non vvti 2JZ? I have a query about the trigger calibration Thanks
  7. Ah ok thanks guys, was a bit of a head scratcher!
  8. Hey guys, quick question What is the hole circled in red for? I had a look at Ianc's thread here on engine components but didn't see it marked or even shown Cheers
  9. Thread revival! Thanks for the advice guys. As I said, I was thinking about upgrading since I'm replacing the rear 2 anyways but fastcar and Dnk you say the Bilstein shocks are a good job? I did a quick google search for someone selling these but just got ebay links... I'll drop Chris a PM I checked out those BC coilovers Chris, closest I could find was these? http://www.bc-racing.co.uk/applications/toyota-coilovers/toyota-supra-jza80-93-98/br-series-coilover-type-rs-1.html I haven't been out in the car since I've been busy with work but there's another few drops of oil under the rear driverside again. I'm aiming to get it sorted before our 2 weeks of summer hits
  10. I wasn't too sure what I could do with them tbh, thought I'd start by asking here I had thought of taking the opportunity of getting an aftermarket set of coilovers since they are on the way out and there's a good chance another could go as well. I'll give them a google Where would you recommend getting OEM dampers from Nic? Is that a Toyota dealer thing?
  11. Evening guys, My rear offside shock has started to leak oil. It is becoming more and more noticeable over the last 2 weeks with the car feeling unstable at the rear when taking corners and as if its very soft when driving over dips and humps on the road. I'm unsure if I should get new rear shocks, not sure where from tho. Or to go with a new set of coilovers, again not sure what to get. Can anyone recommend anything? I'm not looking to lower the car as veilside skirts don't leave me much clearance as it is and I don't want to go overkill on shocks since I don't track the car. Something slightly firmer to improve handling would be ideal tho Thanks
  12. Looking well Jake. Should that be Ballymena tho?
  13. Maybe not 100% accurate there lol but yes veilside kit including massive spoiler I do go past that way to Belfast the odd time, not sure if I was down that way last week tho
  14. Welcome! I've seen a white supra around recently that I haven't seen about before. Get some pictures up!
  15. No probs, I'll be there for 12
  16. I like your thinking, food first You could be right there Jim, complete with gelled hair and chinos
  17. Could do, thats near a McDonalds? What time were you thinking? Jim said latest 2pm so be there for 1?
  18. Could do Jake, I'm from Lisburn so somewhere in Lisburn or Belfast would be handy
  19. I'm still in Jim, I've been keeping an eye on this for updates just haven't been saying much
  20. I'd be up for this as well. It would be good to get a few together, I still haven't been to a supra meet
  21. I can't really give much advice here but I've heard people hold the brake and build some revs then on last amber / green floor it while letting off the brake. Best not to do the brake boost launch thing too long tho I hear it overheats the autoboxes. I'm sure someone more knowledgeable will be along soon to clear this up tho
  22. Lol yea ended up doing a good few runs altogether. I would do a few then check times and convince myself that I could do better and go at it again Even did a few laps in the track session but my rear end was all over the show trying to get out of corners, I'd tell you it wasn't on purpose but thats lies
  23. Thanks for the advice guys. It was a decent day and I did a good few runs. After a few goes I got the best launch from about 2k rpm. I could probably have managed an even better launch with more suitable tyres but it was just for a bitta craic so I'm not that fussed My best time was 13.9 with a 60ft of 2.2 and my friend ran 11.7 with a 2.1 on his R6.
  24. Just watched it, the run against the astra? He got off the line pretty quick but you took no time catching up
  25. Thats some takeoff! I'd imagine it also comes back to what pedrosixfourwas saying as well about tyres. If I was to launch with revs too high or was to sharp with the clutch I'd just spin and end up hitting the limiter repeatedly lol. You have wheelspin for a second or 2 and then catch grip again, I'd imagine those tyres have something to do with it I had actually been looking around youtube at launches as well and theres some sick take off's lol. Check this one out
