  1. Im not sure how my car is these days. After these posts http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?261985-Performance-Problem and http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?259661-General-advice-on-engine-behaviour the general opinion was my car is a bit 'sick'. A Toyota dealer isn't gonna touch it and I'm not sure about taking it to a local garage as they might not know what to look for / at. Can anyone recommend someone /somewhere in Northern Ireland preferably near Lisburn, Antrim or Belfast area to take it for a general service or healthcheck? Thanks
  2. Again thanks for all the feedback guys. I went and checked all the pipes for any splits or loose connections but all seemed fine. I went back to checking the boost controller as it was the cause of the problem. I dropped the boost down to 0.9bar and tried again. Still it did this on off on off thing. After flicking through the manual (http://www.hksusa.com/content/pdf1642.pdf) which I should have done first lol theres a feature called offset mode on page 5 called which alters the boost curve. Not completly sure on that but the reccomended value is 100 for sequential setups - it was on 85. Gave this a wee run and the problem was gone!! Sitting on the preset boost :-) So I popped it back up to 1.2 bar and had another 'go' all seemed well and it feels noticably faster. All good in the hood Was going down the motorway later at a steady 65 - 70 mph and there is a slight chugging, it's most noticable when gently increasing speed in 6th from 60 upwards. This is something that I dont feel lower down or when accelerating hard in a lower gear. I had a similar problem in a previous car which was easy sorted with a new set of plugs. I'm not sure how long the current set have been in for or even what type so I ordered a set of NGK BKR7E after reading Alex's post at http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?41927-FAQ-Spark-plugs. I'm hoping this sets me right
  3. Thanks for the suggestions guys. The TC has been off while testing. Yea fastcar its definitly someting to do with the boost controller. The only thing I could think was if there was some sort of 'high limit' and it was reaching it and cutting the boost. Im looking to get it up on the dyno ASAP and see whats going on.
  4. So I just went out and checked there to be sure on figures. Tested in 3rd. With the boost controller OFF I get ~0.6 at 2k which builds up to 0.9 as I pass 4k and then doesnt go any higher. With the boost controller ON and in 3rd I get ~0.8 from 2k as I get closer to 4k it builds to ~1bar then from 4k onwards it gets to about 1.25 While paying close attention to acceleration and the boost guage when checking this the interesting part is with the EVC3 off its constant acceleration, with it on and when passing 4k rpm theres an 'On /Off' feeling. It's as if im lifting the accelerator then getting on it again. When on a smooth road the feeling between 4k and ~6.5k is this constant on off on off accelerator feeling however it is quite hard to notice.
  5. Not sure how to explain it or the best way to test but when im in 1st I could manage about .7 below 4k and slightly more after. In 3rd its about .8/.9 before 4k and 1.1/1.2 after 4k. But in 6th at 2k I could get 1.2 if I put the foot down.
  6. The civic is conpletly stocks aside from the AEM induction kit and a scorpion cat back. Theres no weight reduction or anything else. I got the car with its BPU upgrade and haven't made any changes to it. The boost sits around 0.9 - 1.1 bar when accelerating and holds that boost all the way to about ~6.5K rpm. Perhaps a dyno run would highlight any problems
  7. Just had a read through your link and what the majority of people said about leaving civics standing is the picture I had in my head. Not 2 seconds into the race looking at his tail lights and having to crawl past him. Graham I feel bad enough as it is with this civic problem without worrying about you getting in a wheelchair, popping a wheelie and having me at the lights
  8. Thanks Abs but I dont have permission to view that link... Not sure why since im logged in and all Edit - Nevermind, needed subscription. Done now.
  9. I had made a thread not long after getting the car http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?259661-General-advice-on-engine-behaviour asking what was normal. as it didnt 'feel' faster than the civic. I thought this was just down the fact that there was no longer a kick but just constant boost but after comparing it to a friends type R which is actually *very* slightly slower than mine, I'm worried...
  10. Lol Graham at this rate a decent NA would probably embarrass me
  11. I was surprised to say the least. I've never been a passenger in a supra so I don't know how it's suppose to 'go'. I have had a read around the forums to see if anyone else has had a similar problem but theres nothing that really matches up. The weird thing is I can actually feel the 2nd turbo and the engine has a different note when it passes 4k. A dyno is £35 -£40 in ECC not far from me so I might take it there and get it done just to see what it making. A BPU like mine should make around 350 - 380 yea?
  12. Morning Guys, Was out in the supra tonight doing the usual cruising about. Its a Jap 1995 twin turbo manual RZ. It's been BPU'ed, double decat, HKS EVC 3 boost controller, HKS airfilter, 1 bar restrictor ring, kakitomo exhaust, blitz dump valve and a front mount HKS intercooler. My friend drives a Honda Civic EP3 Type R which is pretty much stock aside from an aftermarket cat back and an AEM induction kit and as you do, we had a rolling drag from 30mph When we both nailed it he pulled ahead by about a car length (turbo lag I guess) but the whole way through 2nd I sat almost beside him. Infact a few feet behind. Only when I was passing 4-5K rpm in 3rd did I begin to creep past, and I mean walking speed past... Whats going on here?!? lol I should have fleeced him The car doesn't smoke except for some white when giving it boot, it idles fine and sounds healthy with no irregular noises coming from the engine. Any ideas whats wrong? I dont think I've over estimated the Supras performance figures but I'd hoped it would be faster than a 200bhp Type R especially since thats what I owned previously Any ideas or suggestions would be great Thanks
  13. All good guys, I pulled the 7.5A fuse beside the radio fuse and it cut interior lights and the ignition barrel / door keyhole lights. After having it out for 2 days I thought I'd put it back in and it works again just like it should! :-D Just thought I'd post this up incase anyone else gets a similar problem.
  14. Evening Went out to start the car this morning and the battery was almost dead. The ignition lit but not enough to start. I gave it a jump and all was good but I was stumped as to how the battery had died after only a few days. I just noticed with it now being dark that the ignition barrel and the door key lock green lights are on even when it is locked. I saw Homer's post http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?166800-Door-open-light-and-ignition-light-on-all-the-time and this is the same problem but its not the door close sensor since the light above the centre console for a door being open goes out when I push the button or close the door. The other suggestion in the thread by Kev.O was there could be a shortand something could be grounding. Any suggestions on where to start and is there a fuse I could remove to save the battery in the meantime? Thanks guys
  15. Lol no Logie, I checked. Lights all off and twisting the switch along the stalk does nothing. Turning the sidelights on and twisting turns the fogs on and off, then further round is obviously dipped beam
  16. So I just went out and checked out this fog light business on the car. As most of you said blue is my front fogs and only works when sidelights or dipped beam is on. My car is a J-Specbut I think the UK style headlight units are fitted. Thanks guys
  17. Hmm ok, Green comes on as my side lights, red as dipped and yellow as full. I had just never seen the Blue one on. Never thought it to be fogs tho
  18. Serious? Like I said, silly question but if I didnt ask i wouldn't know. Thanks
  19. Hey guys, After having search around the forum I couldn't find an answer so I'm gonna have to ask... This is probably gonna be a really stupid question but im gonna ask it anyways lol Yellow full, red is dipped, green is side light. Easy stuff so far, so what is blue? I have yet to see it on lol Sarcasm and duuuhh posts are accepted
  20. Ah close enough then. Thanks, I'll give them a shout if I need anything.
  21. Thanks tkddav3, to be fair the previous owner had taken really good care of it and had it garaged almost all the time. This along with a respray about a year or so ago probably helped lol Cheers Jim, I'm just outside Moira so probably closer to Lisburn than Antrim. Yea a trip to the mainland was required, couldn't find any to my liking really in NI. Bought it from a guy outside Bristol and got it shipped back.
  22. Thanks guys, just thought I'd ask as I haven't been a passenger in a supra either so was unsure as to what was normal. Also sorry Jurgen, I had went away with work a few days later for a week and didn't really get back to looking till a while after. I assumed I had missed my chance by leaving you hanging. Sorry for the inconvenience and my lack of response.
  23. Hey guys, Ive had my supra 3 days now and im unsure what is normal as theres no supra's in my area. I used to drive a 2004 EP3 Type R and when you gave it boot at low revs it would build up with decent power between 3 - 5.8k rpm then there was a kick when the VTEC hit and the car would scream right up to the limiter at about 8.4k. In the supra I hear a slight whistle if i kinda feather the throttle around 2k and my HKS EVC3 boot controller goes from negative boost or vacuum I guess to moving about just above or below the 0, when planted theres a slight 1/2 seconds delay before it takes off. Boost is about 0.9 bar then at 4k theres a surge forward and boost hits about 1.1 bar - no kick just noticable increase in power but at about 6k it seems to run outta steam and the boost seems to drop to about 1 bar. It still accelerates quickly but it seems to have a reduced pace at around the 6k rpm mark. It doesnt rip to the red like the Civic did, is this normal or is something funny going on? Thanks, Johnny
  24. Thanks guys. I've no plans for it as yet, still getting used to the 'different' driving style. Its great getting so much power at 2k rpm compared to 5800 to go anywhere in the civic. Im taking it easy for now as its been icy / raining the past few days and id hate to hit a tree :o I guess my only real plan for now is getting my head under the bonet and seeing how it all works, I've never had a car with a turbo before nevermind 2 lol and im curious as to what everything is and does Actually I quite like the veilside kit, I think its the crazy front bumper that looks pretty sweet. My civic wasn't lowered yet I still had to take it real easy on ramps and speed bumps, this is slightly lower again so I might be reduced to a crawl as grinding would be bad... lol

    Hey Guys

Hello Folks! As of yesterday im now the proud owner of a twin turbo manual RZ supra :-D I have driven a EP3 Type R for 2 years and needed a change. Its a fair bit different than the high revving needed for VTEC and im loving the feel of boost :-D Its got an HKS air filter, a kakitomo exhaust with wiffbitz decat pipes and a 1 bar restrictor ring. A blitz ssqv dump valve, an HKS front mounted intercooler, a turbo timer and an HKS evc3 boost controller which I have no idea how to operate lol (any help or pointers in the direction if an instruction manual would be great ) Feeling pretty awesome these days and taking it easy for now
