Is that a "yes, its possible" or a "yes, you explained better"?
-
I understand what you are saying. Working on the car at the weekend only is a downside to a daily driver. I hate trying to squeeze in tasks in the evenings or just at weekends. BUT Using it as a daily driver i feel more connected to it. I know all the little squeaks and rattles and "normal" noises it makes. It still gets a lot of attention and very well looked after. After all it is a car and it is designed to be driven. Having said that. If i had garage space and enough capital i would only use my baby at weekends. It then becomes special (as you said). But the choice i had was for one car and in use everyday. Therefore, it was supra or nothing! It took me a long time to find the right one but i got her.

"Bit of a side question with this also: Is it possible to remove the entire dash surround (not the upper bit with warning lights etc) and still have all the dials and switches etc still working and driveable?" I was wondering about the above. I will try to explain a bit better than i did. If i removed the dash and top surround is it then possible to reattach all the dials and buttons without the surround? I am wondering because i want to remove the rubberised "kak" coating from it and paint. This process takes time. But i need my car everyday. Hence the strange question. I hope that explains better.

Cheers for the help guys. Is it literally a bulb that needs replacing or is it a bulb moulded within the button / housing? (therefore more expensive with special part number) Do you know (off the top of your head) the spec of a replacement bulb?

Hello everyone and anyone, Noticed the other night while driving that one / two of my dash board bulbs has gone behind the a/c button the one one next to it. Since i am guessing that the entire set of dash lights run of a single fuse, i reckon a couple of blown bulbs are to blame. (masterful logic!) Has anyone done this before? Does anyone know what type of bulb i need? (Import SZ-R) Since i don't really want to take the whole dash off until i know what i am dealing with. Bit of a side question with this also: Is it possible to remove the entire dash surround (not the upper bit with warning lights etc) and still have all the dials and switches etc still working and driveable? cheers for any help,

Changing the side indicators / repeaters on a J-spec import
kniff_666 replied to kniff_666's topic in mkiv Technical
Made sure to keep the original ones. ATM running with the orange bulbs but have bought the chromed ones from ebay today. My supra is starting to look a bit more like how i imagine in my head now. Just want to change the headlights (to UK glass spec) and maybe put a front grill on it (not decided yet) -
Changing the side indicators / repeaters on a J-spec import

Ok guys quick update. I have fitted these side repeaters to my jap-import SZ-R with no issues at all. (ebay search for TOYOTA SUPRA MK4 CRYSTAL CLEAR SIDE REPEATERS) When i say no issues at all i mean no issues fitting or bulb holder. I did however inadvertently push the bulb and holder inside the panel at one point (i could have cried!) and spent 20mins fishing it back out. Just remember kids that a wire coat hanger has many uses. -
BTW just noticed that you have clear side repeaters. they look nice on it I am about to do this to mine but was unsure because it is a Jap-import and i have heard the bulb holders + bulb don't fit the lenses off ebay. IS yours an import or UK spec?

IMO i just don't think these suit the look of the car. I just don't like black on black (tyres and wheels) i think you need some contrast. I have a black sup and it has gun metal alloys. I really like them on my car. BTW i am not being big headed as i did not put them on my sup but the bloke i bought her off had taste (IMO) pics they don't look like dark gun metal here but they are in reality

Ok guys a quick update: Still using as a daily driver and i have noticed a few things (squeaks/rattles/bumps etc.): 1. Somewhere in the interior (in the back) i am getting a knocking when over patchy surfaces, i think this is the typical rubber pads for the boot that have gone. (needs some adjustment) 2. Rear speakers foam surround has degraded and now they buzz when the radio is on. (need new ones, any suggestions?) 3. Rattle from under the car at ~1750rpm. I am pretty sure this is the heat shield around exhaust. (anyone any ideas on how to secure it properly?) 4. dash board near the windsrceen squeaks and rattles a little when cold in mornings just though i would give you an update on these. I plan on sorting out all these issues in the very near future so if anyone can offer assistance it would be appreciated.

Changing the side indicators / repeaters on a J-spec import

Did you send the parts back or did you do a mod to make them fit? Any help on this would be much appreciated. -

ok i bought the crystal clear lenses from ebay. (bought them yesterday before i read your post) I hope that they do fit but i am sure that they can be modified to fit the bulbs if necessary. -
newbie question: who are the moderators and how do i contact them to move this?

Changing the side indicators / repeaters on a J-spec import
kniff_666 replied to kniff_666's topic in mkiv Technical
Should be simple replacement tho yeah? Are the bulb fixings and the lense fitment to the body the same as a J-spec? -
Cheers for the info about the speakers. Good shout with the forum thread tho ... forgot about the ICE section. nevermind tho

Hello guys, Just looking for some information reagarding the rear speakers. I need some relatively good but cheaper rear speakers that will fit the current brackets as the original OEM ones have completely degraded and now rattle and buzz (all the foam surround has removed itself from the cone etc.) I was wanting to know what size speakers i should get (that does not involve modding the bracket / housing)? They do not have to be amazing speakers as i prefer to listen to the exhaust note when driving anyway:d but buzzing when i do listen to radio/cd is annoying. (my car is currently a no bass aloud zone)

Hello all, i am asking for some (probably very basic) assistance with my side indicators. I have an import (J-spec) SZ-R with the horrible looking bulging orange side indicators. And i am looking to change for some smoked / crystal black ones. Like the ones here Just a couple of questions: 1. will these fit to a J-spec supra? 2. It says they are not E-approved, but does this really matter? 3. has anyone done this and does it look good? your opinions on whether it would or not (i value the opinions of people on here) cheers guys,

Had my sup about 3wks and managed to get about 25-26 mpg the first week. (driving relatively slowly while i got used to driving her) this last time i filled up i worked out i got around 22mpg as i have started to test her out a bit more. It is only the NA version tho.

Exactly, There is a good saying that says: "its more fun driving a slow car fast, than driving a fast car slow" Therefore, always drive fast, what ever you drive!

Unfortunately, this is not my house. It's my parents. I live in a terraced and don't have the space to work on my car when its parked there so i always take it to the rents for cleaning (freshly cleaned in the pics, hence the SHINE) and general maintenance. They don't live too far from me (2 mins) and it means that all my crap *ahem*, tools and spares etc are not cluttering up my house or shed etc.

Thanks for the help guys. How long will it take roughly and do i need to be a master electrician to do it? I am more keen on the mechanical aspect of working on cars than the electrics.

Hello guys, Thinking of changing the positionand style of my scabby old fog light because it looks completely wrong. from the picture below its not clear but it does look rubbish (circled in red) I am thinking of replacing it with a flush fit one in the middle of the bumper under the number plate (red cirlce) or either side of the number plate (blue circle). thinking of using this item off ebay: Has anyone done this before? I am a little concerned about a couple of things: 1. I think that cutting a hole in this point of the bumper will weaken it (structurally risking the curves of it) 2. if it looks rubbish then i will have a hole in the bumper 3. access behind the bumper to allow room for the light and to fit without taking the bumper off please let me know your thoughts

Well it is always positive that every1 enjoys using as a daily driver except Robzki. Car is just coming up to doing about 98,000 km (about 60k miles) so there should be a lot left in the tank. I always believed that this era of toyotas were almost bomb-proof. BTW the guy i bought it off only put 5k km on the clock after owning for 5years! the car really deserves to be driven.

7K!! do you always light up the tires away from junctions etc.? Just out of interest, what size wheel/tire combo are you running and at what pressure? BTW i am using as a daily driver but will probs only do about 9k miles a year

Is there not a quicker way to remove the rubber kak? I have been using this method with thinners and it takes a lot of time and elbow grease. Already bored of this and only done the ash tray and gear surround! BTW if anyone needs a crime commiting then i now have the ability to get away with it due to a lack finger prints from scrubbing the kak. Is the dash not vinyl?
