I went to see one for sale there. Was exactly as you described. Did it have Advans in black?

I have the engine completely stripped. The final part bought a bit of bad news. I first found the culprit big end shells. As you can see from the pictures, the fourth big end from the front had excessive damage on the shell and, possibly, the crank journal. The shells were quite swollen on both the rod and end cap side. I have also noticed scoring on the cylinder walls, mostly in the fourth cylinder from the front but also on the third. The others don't look too bad. A re-bore looks like its on the cards. I have taken some pictures for your opinions/advice but a proper look by the machine shop will be needed for a decision. I think I know what the answer will be though. There was no ridge on the tops of the cylinders however. Quite a surprise. The pictures are as follows, from first to last. Rear two cylinders from right. Middle two cylinders from right. Front two cylinders from right. Rear two cylinders from left. Middle two cylinders from left. Front two cylinders from left. Fourth and third journals on the crankshaft. Damaged shells.

Thanks, as said before, I dont think Im lacking help if I get stuck. Lots of people are willing to pitch in and lend a hand!

Alot of people who convert from NA to TT stick with their 5 speed box, if not originally auto. It is good to BPU stage and is said to have a better ratio IIRC.

Well, I say 'fairly'. Not to worry Mr Wilson, all will be replaced as new!

Hi, I cant really find specific information on this so thought Id ask. In the rebuild Im at the stage where the crankshaft needs to come out. The gear that drives the belt at the front needs to be removed. Can this be done with a gear puller or is a specific tool needed. If so, does anyone have a drawing for it so I can knock one out at work today Cheers! Luke

Yes they fit both NA and TTs. I had the MKII Superdragger on my NA before I got the TT and it wasn't too loud, that had the larger backbox too. Great sound and doesn't drone on motorways. PMd with a price.

No splits or cracks etc but it is worn a bit. Its definately better than tape IMO! Cheers
