Hi Cerickbok, Ref skuttle-shake on the aero, I fitted a turret brace to mine, recommend you go with the one supplied by Nick through Import pimp, and with the roof off, it did reduce the shake a little, but the biggest improvement on my Aero came from fitting new tyres! I also fitted new shocks and replaced the JSpec springs with UK spec ones(a lttle softer). I changed from the 16" originals to 18" with new tyres and it is really like a new car. I had a similar situation a few years ago with a Nissan Patrol I owned where the front tyres(225 section -16" dia) had gone slightly out of round, not enough to cause any effects at low speed but at 60MPH the steering wheel shake was almost uncontrollable. With this experience in mind I had a good eye-ball at my tyres which were about three years old(I only do about 3K miles a year in my Sup) and on changing them for new ones along with the suspension mods, the skuttle shake is almost gone! Hope this helpful. George

I've had a search for this but have not found any info, perhaps someone on the board may have a solution. The printed circuit board where the oil warning, oil level, ABS indicators are located appears to be a constant source of problems through not lighting when the ignition is switched on. From my own, it appears that there is an intermittant fault in the PCB tracking that results in an open circuit at times. Has anyone found a cure for this and what recommendations are there to fix this? Much obliged for any info. Rgds George

I have for sale an original fitment radio and CD changer(double DIN), 10-CD changer & changer mounting bracket and inter-connecting cable from 10-Disc unit to radio. Also with the above, is a frequency expander which allows 87-107Mhz programmes to be received on FM on the radio; this is not an Ebay unit but cost about £20 from NCS. Please note that the radio "cage" is not available as it was re-used to fit the new ICE unit which replaced the OE unit. These were removed from my 1995 Aero NA. I'm looking for £25:00 for the above (plus postage which I'm guessing will be around about £6.00). PM me if interested. George

Hi Again, I have just fitted the exhaust bought from Movistar and can confirm that it is not much different in tone from the original unit. For those interested in the "before & after", my original exhaust (car is a '95-96 NA Aero)had two separate "boxes" on the centre section and the usual end box at the tail. The exhaust bought from Movistar was from a turbo and had a plain centre section(no boxes fitted) and what apears to be the exact same tail box as fitted to NA models. I had to grind off the bolting at the centre sectio-to-Cat joint...they were rusted on, and on fitting the centre section only, I started up the car(no exhaust other than the Cat) and was quite surprised that the exhaust tone was not "loud and rasping", as I have heard from others who have fitted SS big-bore replacemnents, but had a tone very similar to a V-8! Adding the rear box resulted in a slightly deeper "burble" between tick-over and 2000RPM than was previously present with the original exhaust set-up and what I would call an equivalent amount of attenuation from 2000RPM up. I'm not sure if its my imagination, but I also feel that the car now accelerates much sharper than before, which may be due to the slight reduction in exhaust restriction from back pressure. I hope that the above comments will help anyone else contemplating the changes I made, and again, my thanks to Movistar for the unit he sold to me. Rgds George(georigg)

Hi Movistar, Very many thanks for the exhaust which I have received and am extremely pleased with it. For other members, I can highly recommend Movistar as a person of integrity, honesty and a credit to the Supra board for the extra work he put into arranging transport of the exhaust to me in "sunny"(?) Scotland. Its condition can only be described as A1 perfect, I actually thought it was a new exhaust when it arrived! Due to the weather here I have not yet fitted it but have checked under the car and can confirm for others that the TT exhaust will fit a non turbo NA. I'm looking forward to getting it fitted in the next week or two and take this opportunity to pass on my most sincere thanks to Movistar both for the exaust itself and for the efforts he expended on my behalf in arranging its delivery to me. best regards, George

Can't say this is gospel, but from memory of my old Mk 3 the exhaust is a different shape to the Mk 4..........also have a look on Ebay under exhausts for the Mk 3, I seem to remember seeing a Company advertising Mk3 S/S exhausts and I think you will see from their photos that the shape is different. Rgds George

Hi Movistar, Interested but I'm up in the north of Scotland about 30 miles north of Aberdeen. My centre section on my NA has a hole in one of the boxes which Ive repaired but it wont of course get through an MOT! Can you advise if you think it would freight without breaking? and do you have a rough idea of cost. Ta much, reason for looking at this is I'm presently out of work, so dont have too much available to replace the whole exhaust. Cheers George
-
Hi Movistar, Do you still have the exhaust? and, purely out of ignorance and having seen "bump" on other posts.............what does it mean????????r Rgds geo
-
Hi Gordy, You got anything available?????? that would suit?? Rgds George

Just checked my wiring diagrams; The reverse light fuse is in the left side kick panel position E12, feeds to the reverse switch at the left side of the transmission(gearbox) which then feeds in a red/black cable through the main lighting harness to each back light cluster. Check fuse first, then check at red/black cable and also check white/black from reverse light(s) to earth. Rgds George

Paul, The suspension on the Supra is adjustable as it has eccentric bushes in the bottom suspension arms which can be adjusted by turning the bushes. I have a write-up on my other computer and will try and extract the necessarypages tomorrow and post to you. Rgds George

Hi Gordy, Its the centre section, just back from the cat, where it splits into two separate lines which then mates up with the rear tail box. One of the boxes on one line has split open. I've done a repair with Belzona 1111 which is a metal repair compound but it will not pass its MOT with this, but its not due until June so no immediate worries! Rgds George

Hi Monsween, If I'm reading your situation right, I think your estimate of £600 for the cam belt change and service is a bit of the "if he's desperate and got lots of money he'll pay what I'm asking". That is frankly a ridiculous amount of money for the work that's necessary to do a cam-belt. Have you contacted the Lexus dealer in Aberfreeze and asked them for a quote?....at least you will have a comparative cost to go on. There is nothing special in the timing gear on the Supra, its a case of lining up the cam wheels with marks on the casing and ditto with the crank pulley......these marks will line up before you remove the old belt and fitting the new belt only requires that you ensure the marks are aligned with the tensioner in place. Its not rocket science so doesnt need big money to do it. There is a "damper" on the tensioner which will need to be at least looked at and possibly replaced......are you sure that your garage really knows what they will be doing...............personally I think you are being taken for a ride!!!! If you want some info give me a call, I'm in Peterhead and can give you a look at the workshop manual orgive you a copy on disc if you dont have already. A basic service (oil change, filters plugs etc should cost you...Oil £30, Oil filter £10, air filter £20, plugs about £5 each(£30)..... about £90 for parts and about 1.5 Hours max. So if your garage is charging about £60 an hour that a totsal of £180 for the service and £420 for the belt change!!!!!!! Nuff said!!!! Rgds George Let me quote from the service manual "Replace the timing belt every 72 Months or 60000 miles if the vehicle is operated under SEVERE SERVICE conditions such as frequent idling or extensive long distance driving at low speeds". Under the "Normal Service " heading, replacement of the timing belt is noted as only under "severe service" at 60K miles, but otherwise there is no other reference to its changeout other than again at 120,000 miles

John, Given the scarcity of UK front lights, it would be worth your while checking with the likes of NIC(ImportPIMP) or possibly posting for attention of Scandinavian Supra owners to see if any left hand drive lights available there. Then selling your own on Ebay or post on the board......seems to be very good prices going for glass fronts just now. Rgds Geo

I urgently need a replacement centre section for my '94 NA, dont suppose anyone has a reasonably good condition one available? Recently redundant so cannot spend too much hence request. Appreciate either PM or post if one available. Geo

Hi again Mabs, Just found my posts on 22/8/07 which was, Re Matt, KYB quote of £62 each for UK spec shocks came from Proven Products at 01822-613200 & ask for Kevin. The part numbers are Fronts 551069 and rears 551070. As I understand it these are gas shocks, with slightly different valving which gives a less harsh ride than Jspec standard fitments. Postage to Scotland was quoted as an additional £9.00 and this covers 1,2,3 & 4 units if ordered. Rgds George

Hi Mabs, Good advice above, re brake pads/caliper rattle. Assuming your car is a Jspec, the UK spec springs are marginally softer, however only the rear shocks(if I remember correctly) are a different spec to Jspec cars, fronts are the same for OEM. Last year I replaced both springs and shocks to UK spec and it does make a slight difference to the ride......its slightly less harsh........but only slightly, I also fitted 18" rims and new tyres subsequent to the suspension changes and that, along with the suspension changes did make a big difference..........moral........sometimes its actually the tyrs that cause harshness! If your shocks are gone, particularly the rears you will tend to get a knocking noise from the back(or front) when you go over bumps.....its quite a distinctive sound like someone hitting a hammer on to a piece of wood! Rattles are something else.......brake calipers can "rattle" going over bumps as can brake pads, you really need to have the car looked at by someone familiar with these noises, rather than try to self-diagnose from word-descriptions of "sounds", that really does not work as you may not have the experience to understand what is making the sound, as that only comes from "experience". If your going to fit new shocks and want the cheapest available, do a search on my name around about last August/September when I fitted my springs/shocks. I cannot remember the contact details but I posted the UK agent for the OEM shocks fitted to Supras, last eyar I paid about £80 each which is a lot less than those which tend to be fitted to Supras by board members who, generally speaking are looking for firmer suspension for "performance" not comfort. Hope above helpful. George

This may help you.......on motorcycles it is difficult getting a tyre inflator on to the valve which tends to stick "straight up". Have a look on M&P motorcycle spares.....they do a right angle adaptor for motorcycles......just fit a standard wheel valve, short/stubby pattern and buy a right angle adaptor which fits directly on the the "short valve" just like a valve cap............this will allow you to attach an inflator easily to each valve in turn, and when finished blowing up the tyres, you remove the right angle adaptor and replace it with a normal valve cap. This also has the beauty of not having large valves sticking up out of the wheel rim which can look unsightly etc. Rgds George

for sale Thinking of selling my Aerotop-Comments?
georigg replied to georigg's topic in Supra Classifieds
Thanks guys for the comments, there are not too many Supras up here so its difficult trying to judge what is a current price. I'm planning to hold on to mine as long as I can, its certainly not worth trying to sell a soft-top or convertible up here in winter time!!!.........even last summer was a bust, I had the top off all of twice and got a cold both times! Another five photos....... Hopefully photo 4 shows the odo reading and photo 10 shows the fog lights on with the side lights also on. Photo 5 shows the slight "waist" mark on the rear wheel arch which is about the only mark on the body work. Rgds George -

for sale Thinking of selling my Aerotop-Comments?

Hi Bash, Will post some pics tomorrow. I do my own servicing and replace the oil/air filters every 4K and also use semi-synth oil(only use OEM or Halfords oil filters if OEM not available). The car was bought direct from the import garage in June 2007 and had 98067 KM on the clock at that time(approx 61300 miles). As the car is a "third" in the household it has only done about 5.5K miles since bought(I also have a Blackbird motorcycle which tends to get used more!). Externally the car is in good condition other than small stone chips on the leading edge of the bonnet(I think that's caused by the more robust flies hitting the front of the car!!!) and a small dent on the rear wheel arch top, thanks to a numpty in the local supermarket car park who caught the car when they reversed out. Internally there are no tears or damage to any of the seats and there are a set of Toyota car mats fitted from new, so carpets are in A1 condition. I forgot also to add to the spec that the car is fitted with a META system alarm which is a Thatcham 1 system including the M36T2 and M23T2 infra-red system for when the top is off. Pics tomorrow!!!!! Rgds George -
Due to just being made redundant, I'm thinking of selling my Aerotop Mk4 in the new year and am looking for comments from members as to what might be a reasonable price to ask for my car. Its a 1994 NA silver Aerotop with an auto box and with 67K miles, has had UK suspension fitted.....new shocks and springs fitted(UK Spec) along with a Carbing front strengthener bar across the suspension turrets and also has 18" Stealth alloy wheel rims fitted with (now)almost new tyres. I have replaced the front and rear speakers and these are now fed with a Sony CD/MP3 head unit. Ialso have a Sony T69 6-disc changer to go with the head unit, but I've never fitted it as I found the MP3 player to be more than adequate. The rear fog lights have been modified so that the existing rear lights provide the fog lights as well(modified as shown here on the board) and the fronts have Xenon lighting (bulbs) in dip and main lights. The mileage is verifiable as I have written proof provided by NCS who supplied the speedo conversion kit and re-set the kilometer reading to miles for me(at great expense!). I would appreciate comments/opinion on what its current value would be as there appears to be a quite large variation in prices across the Mk4 models. Rgds George

I recommend you use an OEM filter but do NOT under any circumstaces use spares - shop filters of unknown origin.......they usually do not have the same quality of internal parts..........filter materials.........non return valve arrangements etc, etc. As already advised, you can use a specially formulated running in oil but frankly I would recommend you use a normal semi-synth oil and new filter, run the engine for about 500 - 1000 miles depending on your usage of the car, then drain off, replace the filter replace with same good quality semi-synth oil and carry out the routine re-checks that are normally recommended for newly overhauled engines, checking head bolt torque etc, etc. Rgds George
