Hi Guys, Just had another check of my car (which is living at work until Thursday when its booked into the garage cuz it sounds way too dodgy to drive) and found oil in the exhaust at the rear. I take it that this must mean that its definately something seriously wrong with the turbo !!! I think bearings or sommat.. boohoo. The garage are going to check all hose work etc, then if the turbo is suspect, send it off for reconditioning / repair. While its in there though I might aswell get something else done to it and am thinking about getting a different exhaust as my current one has a hole somewhere i think. What do you recommend ? Ta, Rob. PS.. I hate turbos. Only joking.. I luv 'em !!

haha.. Thanks for the help guys :) Just spoke to the garage and they are taking it in on Thursday next week now. Guna leave the car at work til then cuz don't wana make it any worse. S'pose it gives me time to work out where to get the money from to fix it Ta, Rob.

Guys, Car is having probs at the moment (strange whooping noise coming from No1. Turbo) so its booked into a garage for the weekend. This morning I drove the car to work which is about 1 min from the garage so I drop it there on the weekend. When I got into work after keeping the car below 60 all the way, I realised that it was making a really strange smell. The kind of smell you get in the dentists when your having your teeth drilled. Anyone know what the hell that is ? Ta, Rob.

Just taken my car along to a local tuning place. The guy had a look over it and said that they would need the car for a few hours to check over all vacuum hosing and to check the impellers from the turbos, and to check the play they have in them. Then the turbos would need to be sent off to be checked >:/ Their not going to be able to check it in till next week anyway so I am guna spend the weekend hunting down and checking every damn inch of hose work under that bonnet !!! Anyone here that can recommend a garage in the Kent area (I come from Dartford) that would be good to check this out ? Thanks, Rob.

I have checked the hose you pointed out osso. No holes or perished parts of it at all, however there is a very light coating of something inside it. It doesn't smell like engine oil though, its more like WD-40 and its a really thin coating as if it has been wiped on rather than pouring through. If I remove the big pipe that goes into the ETCS bit and rev over 2k so the turbo kicks in, I can feel loads of air coming out of it. Does this mean that the turbo itself is still working ? Are there any other things I can check ? Thanks for the help, Rob.

Haven't had a chance to check the hoses yet as I am at work, but with the bonnet open, giving it a rev, it appears the sound is not coming from the hose area, but coming from where the turbos are ( up right from number 1 hose on the top picture above). Is there still a chance that this may be due to a hose failure or not ? Thanks, Rob.

Thanks for all the help osso.. I'll have a proper check tomorrow in the light and let you know.. Now you mention it though, the top part of hose No. 4 did feel a bit strange. Fingers crossed that thats all it it then.. When a turbo does go, is it likely to go all of a sudden with no warning, or is it usual for them to start acting strange before anything happens ? Ta, Rob. PS.. There is no smoke coming from the exhaust at all when driving.

I have had a check, but its a bit too dark to see really If I run the engine with the bonnet open, should I be able to hear where its coming from ? Ta, Rob. PS.. Should it really not be driven if I am not sure what it is ?

Well thats what I am hoping for. The main difference between the sound its making and the one from mkiv.com is that mine changes pitch with acceleration whereas the one from mkiv.com is always the same and sounds much harsher. Where abouts is this pipe ? Will it be noticable by just checking round the turbos ? Thanks for the help, Rob.

Hi All, Drove to work the other night and the car was fine. When I was driving home though the 1st turbo was making a seriously sus noise (not too different from the turbo failure wav on mkiv.com). The sound file on mkiv.com seems to be a one pitch whereas mine changes from a high pitched sound to low depending on how many revs I am doing. Kindof like one of those dodgy swanee flutes with the handle at the bottom that changes the tone. Also there is no boost at all from the first turbo and haven't even tried to see if the second turbo still works. What do you guys reckon. Shall I get my wallet out now or later ? Ta, Rob. PS.. Its also seriously loud !

Mines the same as that too.. My speedo also only goes up to 120MPH. If I want to get the 180 speedo do I have to buy a complete new unit or just change the face and get some kind of converter ? Ta, Rob.

eyefi, Not sure if it happens in manual mode, I'll try it on the way home from work and let you know I haven't shorted the the diagnostic pins so I am guessing that it probably is overheating. Thanks for the advice... Rgds, Rob.

Hi Guys.. I almost forgot about this problem until it happened the other day... Every now and then when I give the Supe some serious welly I notice that the overdrive light flashes. I remember that this is some kind of diagnostic code so i noted the sequence... flash - 2 second delay - flash - 2 second delay, and so on, etc etc etc. Any of you guys know what this means ?? The metal plate covering my cat pipe used to rattle like a stone in a washing machine when the car was cold, but I fixed it by taking the plate off, then putting it back on again Job done .. Rob..

Hi Guys, I have been meaning to get a BOV for my MKIV for some time now, but ever since a friend of mine bought a Calibra Turbo with dump valve I have wanted one even more !! Do you have any advice as to which you believe to be the best. Rgds, Rob. PS.. Must have a nice loud sound.! Well louder than my friends
