  1. apart from the lack of whistle are there any other tell tale signs, is it possible for the first turbo to simple not work??

Just got my TT 1996 pre facelift 43k I am a bit concerned as I cannot hear any turbo whistle coming from the first turbo at aroung 1500 revs:( Once I rev to around 4k revs I can hear the slight turbo whistle them but nothing below. The other thing is that other than back box, which seems to spread down most of the car, well the garage said it was only a back box , could be a full system as it ends about under the centre console ,,,, its standard, I have read on this forum that the transition from the 1st turbo to the 2nd shouldnt be that noticable. Well its is quite noticable on mine , there is a big power surge at 4k, could this be a sign that the 1st turbo isnt boosting as it should.?? Is there any way of checking?? Any ideas folks ??? :(

  6. hope someone can help. just got my TT, I am worried that the first turbo may not be boosting as I cannot hear any whistle at all when reving up. When I rev to 4k the whistle is there then. I thought you should hear the 1st turbo whistle at around 1500 revs. Any way of checking this out. getting quite concerned 1996 tt pre facelift 43k any comments appreciated:(

  8. Well too be fair m8, they are not that bad , on a 1996 pre facelift. Saw on the net somebody used Turtle was safe scratch remover from Halfords and it worked quite well, might give it a go later, i tried a bit of Halfords colour restorer , didnt do much really. Is the discolouration on the outside or inside normally, I have been told its mostly on the inside. I quite fancied Jons facelift style lights to modernise the car, its just the time factor posting off and waited for them to return.....call me impatient Is there anyone around Stoke-on-Trent who does this sort of thing ???

  10. Is there anybody in the Midlands area who does headlight refurbs? I have seen Gzaerojons and his are fantastic, its just that hes located down south. Anyone know where Club Member lovatt is located and are his refurbs as good as Jons ?
  11. I have a jap radio/tape player and cd. Also tv and sat nav. the tv does tune in to the uk channels , just, but the picture is poor and crackles only for sound. Main prob is the cd player, put a gen cd in and it just spits them back out. Are they different in Japan or is mine just knacked. Its all Alpine kit any ideas before it gets ripped out ??? cheers

  13. back to the original question......... Blimey.... you lot make me feel REALLY old now, is there any one older than me.....???? I am 47 years young.....yeah yeah yeah but at least my insurance is only £368 fully comp for me and the mrs Can anybody beat that ?????? :cool:
  14. Hi thanks for the replies, can you get the Silkolene pro5 10/50 from Halfords , how much is that ? This will sound daft, is the oil and filter change the same procedue as with any car, ie drop the oil ,change the filter replace oil, let filter fill then check again , job done .Ive never had a turbo car before so just checking that there isnt anything else to do. Also , with the very few miles Ive done so far when driving the car I couldnt really hear the first turbo, the whistle , or at least it wasnt that obvious, however there was a real surge at around the 4k revs, is there any way of checking that the first turbo is boosting correctly as I havnt got a boost guage. I have read that the 2nd turbo coming in shouldnt be that obvious. As far as I know mines stock with the exception of the wheels and back box, even the induction/ari filter is stock. Is there any advantage of putting an after market air filter on as some on here have said the original is more than sufficient especially with a stockish exhaust.
  15. Thanks for all the replies. I live near Hanley. I only got my car on Monday night , on Tuesday I was working in Newbury so the car has sat on the drive since. I am home tonight Mines a Silver TT on a P plate. So we have Kieran in Biddulph and one from Newcastle with the N/a was it? Anyone else out there from the Stoke-on-Trent area ish ? Mark
  16. Hi I have been looking at previous posts on which oil and which fuel is best etc etc . I am a new owner (less than 100 miles) of a 1996 pre facelift Supra TT auto.STOCK other than rear back box:) In a nutshell which oils is recommended if changed every 6k moderate varied driving. Is semi synthetic sufficient? Halfords???? Which fuel is okay / best. Any super unleaded okay, the supermarket stuff or shell optimax etc etc:search: Can you get the oil filters off the shelf from Halfords and are they the same as the UK TT supra? Are there any members out there living in or around Stoke-on-Trent with TTs any help appreciated , but please keep it simple as my heads in a spin at the moment trying to take it all in I cant do tooooo much searching through the forums because Im at working sneaking 5 mins when I can;) cheers Mark
  17. Satsport.. are your lights in the photo original facelift lights or the refurbished ordinary ones refurbished to look like facelifts. Apparently Jon off this site can refurbish normal lights to look like facelifts so I assume the sidelights will be still there in the headlight ( at least that is how I understand it) Who is Nic and how much do the clear indicators cost cheers Mark PS nice car m8
  18. Hi Damon, are your lights the facelift style,(your car looks ace m8) getting mixed opinions now on which will go best with a silver car, its just that I wanted the facelift to make it look more recent. Any one got any more photos of the refurbished lights on a silver car ??

  20. Thanks alot for the photos, looks really good. Did you send him std lights for the refurb. How similar are they to genuine facelifts. I like the mesh grill you have, I have the std bumper but want to put the mesh in and change the indicators to the clear one like yours. How easy is it taking the headlight out / back in?? Any more photos of other variations of the lights would be great thanks to all Mark
  21. Hi I am going to get my lights refurished by Jon from this forum. The problem is I cannot decide which to have. My car is silver , I fancied the facelift style with crome rings to modernise the car. Anyone got any photos of his refurbed lights on the car, silver car preferably , so I can see what they are like fitted. Apart from that , which one do you guys think would look best on a silver car ?? Also what colour caliper supra stickers would you put on a silver car any help muchly appreciated Mark

  23. BIG thanks for the replies.... going back to the overdrive,, do all tts have it? I drove 100 miles from picking it up and never noticed this o/d button, how do u know when its on , does a light come on on the dash what does it say? The switch to the left of the auto gear stick, when pressed the MANU light comes on, whats that for? Thanks again Mark ps I am sure all these daft questions will become obvious in time, I am working away from home till Friday , so basically I picked the car up , parked it then got in my trusty Vectra and drove 200 miles to work, cant wait to play on Friday.
  24. Hi just got my first supra tt , 1996 pre facelift, silver 18 deep dish wheels and large back box , overwise std. This will sound obvious to all you experienced owners... the overdrive switch, where is it , is it the switch that makesthe manu light come on on the dash, looking at previous threads apart fron excluding 4 gear when off theres no difference , so what is the point. Also, when I got the car the front spoiler wouldnt drop when the button was pressed, then after switching auto on/off and manual down etc etc for some reason it came down (while staionery) is there some magic process to follow before it drops as I cannot get it to grop again, how can you tell if it comes down auto when driving ?, ie what position do the switch have to be in etc, and at what speed is it supposed to drop automatically. Lastly , any one got any ideas where to get the wire, (Jag style) mesh grill from , I have seen a few around ? cheers Mark
