  1. Outstanding build - nice work guys! P.S. It's the Links at St. Andrews, here in Scotland. http://www.standrews.org.uk
  2. Yeah the guy in the local Bike shop was raving about those, quite appealed to me too. Offered me a day trying out all the big Bikes including that, the big 1400 GTR, ZZR 1400, ZX-10R etc. - he knows I'm a new rider but reckoned if I was mental enough to teach myself on a 'blade thou and was still with us after surviving riding that for a while then there must be 'some' skill so I could try out each model after saying I was pretty open minded on what Bike I got and could appreciate each model. It just has to be a decent size with a ~1L+ engine for me, I don't particularly wanna be over on my wrists all day on a blat and I certainly don't wanna have to rev the nuts off it all the time VTEC style to get anywhere. I also don't wanna pay silly insurance for the 1st year so that comes into it and strangely the ultra tourers seem reasonable even though they have a 1400 engine.
  3. I was thinking of going for the SV1000 SZ special model as my first bike - looks like a GSX-R, has a decent torquey V-Twin but is much cheaper to insure as not classed as a supersports. http://www.svcontact.com/svcontact/images/SV1000SZ_2005.jpg Still got another Supra to buy though so most likely to do that first... about to move house to a place with a double garage within the next few months first. Will check out the Varadero, sounds interesting. Cheers, Brian.
  4. Yeah that's him - sounds good. I've got a new Supra and a Bike to buy... all my Biker mates and bro keep egging me on to get the Bike bought (passed my direct access back in April on an ER5) but I've been prioritising the Supra. TL1000 huh, wasn't that the one known as the 'Widow Maker'? with a peach of a V-Twin engine in? I was thinking of going for the SV1000 SZ special model as my first bike - looks like a GSX-R, has the same decent torquey V-Twin but is much cheaper to insure as not classed as a supersports.
  5. Small world... tell him Brian from CommVault says Hi I'd heard from Gary F (mutual friend) that he downhills with that he'd sold the GSXR and FTO and bought an Exige. Be good fun round KH that!
  6. Might be 2+2=5 here but that wouldn't be Brian Ronald would it? Looks like a good day was had by all Cheers, Brian.

    Tyres

Covered loads already if you do a search but decent tyres that aren't silly expensive are the Falken FK-452's - get them from http://www.camskill.co.uk for the best prices and use a local place to fit / balance, usually £10 a corner most places charge. Cheers, Brian.

    Track Tyre Pressure

Previous experience at Knockhill in road cars / road tyres makes me say overinflate them or you'll end up with outside edge tyre wear (potentially very bad depending if you drive like a little girl or properly!) also on the shoulders and onto the tyre sidewall, especially on the offside tyres as KH is mostly right-handers.
  9. Congrats on the Mod1 pass Mike I was glad to have that one out the way so I could concentrate on road riding. ^^ Update, passed this 1st time round back in April so have my full license. Whole other bunch of stuff got in the way with me getting a Bike for the season though so leaving it to next season now. Just glad to have the license now and the formalities out of the way. Cheers, Brian.
  10. I'm on a longstanding night out the evening before but will try to abstain from the sauce as much as possible to get my ass down for a look at the action. Always get frustrated at not running though as love going on track - know it well from past sessions.
  11. You're kidding? It's like a £10 part from Toyota and a couple of hours work tops IIRC - my Dad did the oil pressure switch on our '93 TT after it went. Pretty common fault, the seal onto the block seems to perish over time. Cheers, Brian.

    Sad news - AlanM

Genuinely shocked to read this after seeing the news in the Scotland section Knockhill meet thread whilst currently stranded at Paphos airport on my way home from hols in Cyprus Alan will be sorely missed from the club - a thoroughly decent chap and long standing member always participating with a view I could relate to. Just goes to show you gotta live life to the full as you never know when your number's up Brian.

    Leaking Tein Shock

^^ As per other thread mate, no point pissing about with Tein rebuilds IMO you'll just end up with more hassle especially if you only do one or two.
  14. Sounds like the nearside rear wheel has been whacked off a kerb in an 'incident' at some point to cause that Something bent? Shocks wise I've never rated teins as I've had and so many people I know have had leaky ones. Build quality seems shite tbh Can't polish a turd an all that - get a decent quality set IMO but regardless you'll need another geo setup after all the work is done Longevity wise it's hard to beat Billsteins but if you want height adjustability then you'll need a custom set with matched springs from Chris Wilson - regarded as an excellent setup with decent handling whilst maintaining ride quality. I rate the HSD coilovers for handling with ride quality from my own experience with them but can't comment on their longevity given I didn't have the car long post fitment. Cheers, Bri.
  15. Outstanding can't wait to see it run with more power
  16. Nice example Nev - congrats! Still toying with the idea of one of these as a drift slag toy myself They drift surprisingly well on standard suspension / LSD and just BPU mods BTW
  17. Was standard on the 'wangan' import only special models.
  18. What about going R154 box now along with the 2JZ-GTE to avoid the stupid expense of the Getrag these days?
  19. Yeah that's true - loading from rollers is never quite real life on power runs because of the retardation levels used. * edit - what RPM are you tending to run now BTW? * Would love to come for a ride in it sometime mate - I watch various peoples build threads with interest getting ideas for my next episode in Supra ownership and of course real life is the truest reflection A shame about Pod as your car would have no doubt put in a great showing Maybe throwing the cat amongst the pidgeons here but how's yours compare with Lee P's now on the road spool and driveability wise thinking of the old big twins lack spool debate?
  20. Your power delivery looks nuts now Jamie - at 4,500 RPM you have only 240bhp.... then 1,000 RPM later at 5,500 RPM you have 680bhp - that's + 440bhp in the space of 1k RPM Do you not miss any of the driveability / power you had at lower RPM on the stockish T67 DBB setup? That seemed like the utopia power - spool - driveability wise for me. Any regrets? Cheers, Brian.
  21. Congrats D - brilliant news!! So what's the plan engine wise now you're properly up and running? Still thinking LSx or old school v8 or just go tried and tested single'd 2JZ again? Cheers, Brian.
  22. You should be fine with a proper tool set, you can always feel if the metal is ready to snap. As scary as it sounds, a sharp dunt with the butt of your hand on the ratchet is usually the way to go to 'break' the tightness through shocking to get things moving. Pussy footing around with lots of force for a period is more likely to break / thread things IMO.
  23. This needs a 3S-GTE and ST205 running gear in it! Nice example
