  1. It's a PHR GT60 turbo, this is what I've bought: http://www.mkivstore.com/index.php?target=products&product_id=1770
  2. PHR have got back to me (quickly) and put my mind at rest. Their turbos and wastegates are assembled by innovative turbo systems so all's in order. Now to start fitting it, mmmmm....
  3. I didn't order the kit direct from PHR and thought someone on here would have a PHR turbo to give me a quick answer. I dont mind where the thread is, I'll move it if someone tells me how
  4. I've recently ordered a PHR street turbo kit. It arrived today. I was a little suprised to see that the turbo is branded ITS along with the wastegate. The impression I got from the text when buying it was that the wastegate should be HKS and turbo PHR? Please can someone put my mind at ease!
  5. I'm sure you can amend most policies for an extra fee. I paid £800 fully comp with 4 yrs NCB through elephant (23yrs old), not sure what 4 yrs NCB is worth though
  6. BTW my thoughts on the film: I thought it was great. I've been a little bored of the recent action films that seem to go way over the top with stunt and computer graphic scenes. I liked the way how this film seemed a little more subtle and under played (ie no cars jumping, multi million dollar houses blown to pieces then driven through, etc). The two leads could have done with a little more of a connection but I quite liked how they played the roles seriously (no silly joking/wise cracks). Some of the back drops were amazing and I've never wanted to own a power boat so much! I'll be buying it on dvd when it comes out:)
  7. i got the sound track, I dont think it has his theme but a very similar song called 'auto rock' by Mogwai
  8. just to let under 25's know I got insured with elephant for 850 quid on a j spec TT 6 speed, (I'm 23)
  9. Abbey Motorsport have a good set up and obviously lots of experience. Not sure on prices though, may be worth giving them a call.
  10. looking at the aimco xtd stage 3 clutch, seems very cheap. On the website it says for 94 to 97 supras, is there any diference with ones out of that age group?
  11. Had my car a couple of days and already need a new clutch. Any suggestions? How good is the standard clutch and how much is a replacement? I don't really want a super heavy after market one but are there any that are better for a relatively non-modded car? Many thanks
  12. Thanks for all your replies. The VCS inspection was fine and he didn't bump the price up so I got it. My first supra (well Avensis at the mo but the V5's gone to be changed)
  13. I'll see how the checks go 2moro. If I pay £260 for the checks and its ok I'll probably get it, but , if the bloke asks for any more money than it was up for last week then I'll walk away. I'll definately then check into what Jurgen can get, thanx for the info
  14. shhhh! Thanks for the replies, the full VCS check will be done 2moro, fingers crossed. Only other worrying thing is he's put the price up £700 since I said I was going to get the check done. He hasn't told me personally but checking on the website its gone up. He better not be playing me
  15. Anyone with any knowledge. I'm looking at buying a supra and have done some checks on it's registration. It comes back to a 3ltr twin turbo Toyota Avensis. Do you think this is just an error or is a scam hidden? I've phoned the owner who said it was just an error and that it would be changed when I got the car. Its been in the country since the summer.
  16. EDIT: beaten to it! i think yours makes more sense than my stupid paint pics:respekt:
  17. as far as I'm aware no. When detonation occurs the fuel burn pattern changes (like stated above, the match may light at both ends or all at once). Because of this difference in how the fuel ignites, it changes where force is exerted inside the combustion chamber. As the force is created in the wrong place inside the combustion chamber it creates a pressure wave inside the chamber making the noise that can sometimes be heard. In (crap) fig a the fuel is being burnt right to left as normal. In (crap) fig b the detonation of the fuel has happened on the left and changed how the fuel is burnt. This creates abnormal pressures inside the cylinder making the noise. Does this make any sense?
  18. not a lot would happen as the mixtures been burnt, that combined with the explosion trying to push the cylinder in the wrong direction is why you loose a lot of power through detonation.
  19. im afraid I'm no mechanic (or artist at that) but my understanding is that knocking is heard whenever the fuel ignites on its own. If the fuel is ignited before or after the spark plug lights it up then the burn pattern of the fuel changes and you hear the knocking sound. Worst case is when the piston is compressing the mixture (or whatever gas is in the chamber) and the gas is ignited before the piston reaches TDC, therefor trying to push the cylinder down when its moving up putting a massive force on the cylinder. I'm sure I'll be corrected if wrong:read:
  20. try reading this http://www.stanford.edu/~bmoses/knock.html
  21. Hi everyone, I'm a newbie in search of buying a supra. Just after someones opinion/ experience. How many miles are the supras good for? What are peoples thoughts of buying one with 100k+ miles (import)? If the engine did go, does anyone know the cost of a re-build? Mnay thanks for any replies
