wanted Air con pump

I just had my air con regassed and it's still not working. Ive been told it's the pump. Does anyone have one?

I would start by taking it back to where re gassed it for you. Ask them to pressure test the system and make sure the gas/refrigerant is still present.

If they have just regassed your AC system without checking for leaks first and all that refrigerant has just leaked out into the atmosphere thats a very big no no. Huge fines can apply, not for you but for them

It was tested mate, i had it done at work. The system is full of gas, revs raise when you press the button. The clutch just doesn't kick in. Any other suggestions are welcome

Have one here, was removed from a working system some time ago, but has been safely stored since. Consider me a last resort if you'd prefer to find closer.

Power up the magnetic clutch with the engine off, if it engages then it's not being switched by the control unit and the fault lies with the control side.

I'll try it with the engine off first.

After replacing the pump I am still getting no engagement from the air con. It's all gassed and no leaks. Revs raise the clutch just doesn't kick in!

Any ideas guys? It's so hot! Lol

Did the new pump have it's own clutch and pulley on?

All a/c units have a pressure sensor for the clutch circuit, so it won't run if the system pressure falls below a certain positive pressure; usually around 11psi. This is to prevent the a/c compressor sucking in atmosphere if a major leak in the system were to occur. I'd suspect a faulty pressure sensor. Whoever fitted your new pump and recharged you refrigerant should be able to check the sensor is good, or not so good.

Whoever said it was the pump should pay for your pump.

I'll see if I can get the pressure sensor checked today. The ac test keeps saying faulty solar sensor, even if the car is in day light.

Dude you needed to check the control side before changing any parts.

Check that the wiring to the magnetic clutch is reciving a signal before anything else.

If it is then power up the clutch manually to check activation.

If not then make sure the pressure switches are being switched.

These will kick out the system so stoping the signal to the magnetic clutch being turned on.

Of course there are simpler things to check first, like the 10A clutch fuse. Have you checked that is OK, mind you if its blown aside from a bare metal short that would usually indicate a compressor partial or full seizure problem. There is a relay as well that you can short (bypass) with a paperclip to force the clutch to engage. Maybe your relay is frazzled, 20 year old relays can fail? Always best to check fuses and relays before tackling the hardware.

Thanks guys, this will be where I check next, thing is I do not think there is anymore hardware to check. Rad and pump has now been replaced and leaks seem unlikely at this stage.
