Are toyota steering wheels interchangeable.

Hi guys

I'm looking into options for a new steering wheel, BUT, it needs to have buttons. I want something stock looking too not 1 of the F&F wheels with the 2 small buttons on.

I need at least 3 buttons and a horn.

1) Syvecs rolling launch

2) dry NItrous spray (pre throttle body)

3) purge kit

I've had a look and I quite like the toyota Verso-S T-spirit wheel. It's got multi controls built it I could use, a centre horn and its a stock wheel which won't look out of place. I'm beginning to hate aftermarket steering wheels for some reason.

So my question is, does anyone know if toyota steering wheels are generic, as in they all use the same size splines and nut pattern etc.

Cheers

John

Nic posted something recently, commenting on which wheels fit the Supra. I'll search...

edit - my mistake, t was about the MR2:

http://mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?280155-Toyota-Breakers

Although he does say:

I've tested quite a few and it looks like it's possible to swap any Toyota/Lexus steering wheel onto any other model (same spline fitment and canceling for indicators) The MR2 and Supra steering wheels are interchangeable, I know the following wheels will fit the MR2 so will also fit the Supra (Yaris, IQ, Auris, Lexus is (all models), Rav 4, MR-S, Celica, Altezza). The only apparent difference between the wheels is the connectors for the airbag, Toyota sell a harness that can adapt some models although I don't have airbags so cannot confirm which ones.

It's also possible to buy harnesses to connect the steering wheel controls to most modern branded headunits,

I'm liking the avensis wheel. But I don't really want to spend 230 quid if its not a guaranteed fit.

Adam, where are the other buttons on that tiptronic wheel mate, I can only see 2.

In the same position but on the back of the wheel, the downshift buttons are on the front and upshift on the back :)

Looks something like this:

From the research I've done I'm fairly sure that all Toyota and Lexus steering wheels are interchangeable - certainly in terms of fit and auto cancellation of the indicators, not sure about airbag compatibility.

Here are some pics of the 2012 Yaris leather steering wheel I've fitted on the MR2 - i'm just in the process of mending the blown airbag cover and recovering it, I'll post more pics once done.

I also test fitted a 2011 Toyota Auris steering wheel, I don't have an airbag for this one but it'll be going on Ebay soon.

Really happy with the Yaris wheel it's a really nice shape, size and texture, I trawled the UK breakers online and found one that was basically brand new. Just need to find a way of bonding the blown PP airbag cover back together, I think I'll use bumper repair patches then cover with 3M Di-Noc carbon fibre sheet.

I think the best looking Toyota steering wheels are the latest model Auris, Yaris and IQ, the Lexus IS-F steering wheels also look really good but are difficult to find.

That's really nice  Dammit, what a temptation. Finding fun stuff to wire the buttons up to would be fun as well. How hard is it to keep a working airbag...?

It'll be difficult to find a steering wheel with a working airbag as breakers tend to sell all the airbags off separately as a complete kit, non of the ones I contacted would sell the steering wheel airbag on it's own.

I bought an adapter that enables the steering wheel buttons to operate my Sony headunit, not had a proper look at it yet but looks like it fits between the stock wiring loom and headunit, so I'll need to make up a harness from the buttons to the adapter. Saying that wiring/electronics is definitely not one of my strong points.

It will be very cool if you can get the volume etc linked up, either way it looks great, updated the interior nicely.

I've already bought one of these adapters that will enable me to control the Sony headunit with the steering wheel buttons but it'll need some wiring in to get it to work.

Hi, have you managed to get all of the controls working on this. I have just rushed in and bought an Auris sr61 flat bottom steering wheel and was hoping to be able to patch it in to my Alpine blue tooth head unit. Does anyone know if this is possible or is it another one of my stupid ideas?
