Supra ST Myster
Ok, i know that it says it should be mounted either 18 or 36 inches from the manifold to block, but on my downpipe for my single there is already a bung welded in the position shown in the pic (to the right of the stock O2 sensor) and the aem sensor screw perfectly in there, so is it ok to mount the sensor there, im not going to be running high boost, about 1.2bar in the end.. not going to big power so egts should be ok?? thoughts... you like my pic? merckx
Aem recommend 18" for cars without a turbo. 36" for cars with a turbo. Personally I wouldn't fit it there, even though it's very convenient. It's always best to do things right the first time .
Supra ST Myster
yeah i know wot you mean, think i will get the bung that came with it welded further down..
RobSheffield
Quick newb question then....if you put the AEM sensor 36" down the pipe, what do you put in the one at the top of the DP? Stock O2 sensor? Or just bung it up?

Class One
Your WBO2 sensor should be located approx where the 2nd cat (used to be) into the exhaust section. Or where the 2nd decat pipe fits into the exhaust. Ideal place.

Chris Wilson
IMO it will be fine as indicated in your photo. I have had a wideband sensor in a similar position on my Skyline for years, no problem on road or track.
Lebsteif
Chris, do you mean its fine on the picture of Supra ST Myster or rob wild, just to be sure

I have had a wideband sensor in a similar position on my Skyline for years, no problem on road or track. That's realy good news Chris, Thanks - I was starting to panic, as mine is in the first decat on my BPU, and was worrying with all these previous comments Mike

supra matt
will it not give a better reading lower down the pipe as its cooler and more of a accurate reading ?
Chris Wilson
will it not give a better reading lower down the pipe as its cooler and more of a accurate reading ? No. No difference, they are temperature compensating.
merckx
But the manufacturer recommends fitting them 36" downstream from the exhaust port for a reason! I wouldn't want to risk shortening the life of mine unnecessarily!
Pixelfill
But the manufacturer recommends fitting them 36" downstream from the exhaust port for a reason! I wouldn't want to risk shortening the life of mine unnecessarily! Yeah thanks mate, you've got me worrying again . To recap, I didn't ask for it to be fitted where it was, a 'respected' tuner fitted it there. Mike

RobSheffield
Mike From the manual... High exhaust temps, (over 850 degrees C) will shorten sensor life I would take that as if it is toward the end of your first decat the life will be reduced, so move it
