Can you re-map/chip a supra?

What about plugging in an AEM ECU?

Won't that give you full flexibility?

Yes, as would fitting a Motec, Autronic, HKS F-con et al. But that is not a chip, more a full blown replacement. I think Gaz was looking for a cheaper option and not a full blown mapping session etc.

An AEM is a full replacement which needs mapping and associated mods...think the guy was looking for just one of these Superchips options which are a load of bollox.

Think Whiffin had a MINES ECU spare...they are a good bit of kit IMO.

EDIT - DOH beaten by CJ.

Yeah, I'm familiar with the 'one-size-fits-all' go-faster wonders.

I would think that the AEM is an alternative to those, in the sense that it's meant to be 'plug-and-play', no messing around with replacing looms and sensors.

It costs more of course, but it's a fair tradeoff considering the DIY flexibily it provides (to the clued-up punter)

If I'm wrong, please correct me, because I've got one in my sights.

The stock ECU cannot be reprogrammed cause no one's figured out how to do it. Simple as that AFAIK.

The Blitz ECU AFAIK is mappable full replacement. The MINES is a locked down full replacement. The AEM is a fully tuneable replacement.

Just because nobody has access to the software required to do it.

The ECU might not actually be flash-programmable.

Bosch ECUs (AFAIK) come in both flashable (for development) and non-flashable (for production cars) versions. The MINES ECU might simply be a flashable version of the stock ECU, loaded with a different calibration.

There is one company I know of who can reprogram the factory nippondenso unit in the Toyota supra, Power House Amuse. However there are adjustable aftermarket ECU replacements like the EMS by AEM or a piggy back like HKS V-con if that is more to your liking.

TechTom do a system that allows you to remap the exisiting ecu. The Ignition is kind of 4D mapped (I say kind of as it's about 3 layers of interleaved throttle based tri linear interpolation rather than a full on 4D mapping array) on the MK4 TCCS and this system allow you to tweek all layers. They do one for the MK3 Supra too, not such a big seller that one :D

Nod.
