Insurance... :(

Ok, after much pain and hassle my car looks like it is all coming together and will be ready on the 19th April :eyebrows:  :D :p

Now comes the next big thing... insuring the bloody thing...

So far, my list of companies to contact is:

Sky

A-Plan

Lancastor

Adrian Flux

Any others would be greatly appreciated!

Some details, I am 28, work in IT, walk to work, will never use the car for work, will only drive in the summer and will only do about 3 - 4K miles per year.

Now the bad stuff (some of you may remember this)... I have 1 years no claims on my main car, which is in my name, but needs to get moved over to Mels name. I have only had my UK license for 1.5 years. It was directly converted from South African.

The car, 1994 JSpec, with most things modified... racing seats, rear seats removed, exterior mods are spoiler, side mirrors and front bumper, engine is up to about 450bhp +-.

So if you can add to the list of companies to call, please do so, advise, etc all welcome.

Even if I need to start a company and insure the car through them, I will give it a try, just need to get this bloody thing insured!!!

Graham, try AON who do mine - 01384 552670. I have an NA on a 5k limited milage policy. I have 0 no claims as I have been driving a company car for 7 years..

I paid £389.00 for the NA.

I know they prefer drivers to be over 30 but it's worth a call. They beat A-plan by £200 when I was shopping around!

Sky will quote you happy matey.

NOT A CHANCE!! I am very F****D OFF with the Sky. Last year they said that they could not quote because I have not had a UK license for more than a year... Fair enough... Now its 3 years. And they still try and get other business out of me saying I should bring a different car them WTF!!!!

Absolutely fuming right now!!! Good thing I cant drive my supra!!!

As with insurance for any car just call as many people as you can, it's a lottery, some people like you, some don't - the more you call the more chance you have of finding the cheapest...

I put together a list of insurers years ago, it's probably out of date now but try calling a few and compare quotes with the usual suspects...

Ringing round is a pain in the arse, I was just going to go with Adrain Flux again, but had to speak to A-Plan about my van insurance and just thought I would ask, was very surprised when they turned out cheaper :D

Yeah is a pain. Spoke to Lancaster and they seem pretty decent... Just waiting to hear about some of the changes to the online quote.

Fingers crossed!!!

Look into a classic car policy Graham if you're not intending to do excessive mileage then :) Far cheaper and lovely bolt on cover options. :)

I found Sky very helpful. Like anything, you need to let them know the rates quote by other insurers. Jae and Scott are brill.

I am looking into the classic car option, waiting to hear back now. Only plan on doing around 3 - 4K per year...

My issue with Sky is that they say one thing, then they change and say another... no consistancy!

EDIT: calmed down a bit now... since the guys I work with have been taking the piss since lunch time.

I'm guessing one problem may be your residency. You said that you had a South African licence prior to you doing the swap for the UK. Some companies require a certain residency length eg 3-5 years, esp when you are looking at specialist scheme not just 'computer says' rates.

Can see why it's frustrating to be honest.
