Ok I wana know something, only 2 types of engines were produced for the supra (excluding the vvti heads), the tt and n/a so why is there a 2jz ge a 2jz gte and the one I'm confused about the 1jz gte! What was difference or is it jus a myth?

Aparently the 1jz has a better head than 2jz, couldnt tell you why though.

See now that's what I heard but I dint relise the mk3 head would sit on the 2jz, I thought they were completely different but now I know so all is good!!

Cheers for clearing that up!

The 1JZ-GTE is indeed remarkably similar to the 2JZ-GTE and will fit onto the 2JZ-GTE block - this is called a 1.5JZ-GTE in the Soarer / JZA70 (JDM only model mk3 Supra TT) world.

The 1JZ is rumoured to have the better flowing head because it was designed in conjunction with Yamaha - Toyota "went it alone" when evolving the 1JZ-GTE engine into the 2JZ-GTE effectively by stroking it to increase capacity (to satisfy global market demands) and by adding the complex sequential twin turbo setup. Some would argue (including our very own Chris Wilson) that the 1JZ-GTE is actually the better engine with it's natural willingness to rev, lost somewhat with the transformation into the 2JZ.

I used to own a JZA70 and can confirm they are great engines - hugely revvy in nature and a very responsive drive. Todd on here owns that car now so could perhaps add his 2p.

For reference, the UK mk3 Supra Turbo was a single turbo affair with the older engine design, the 7M-GTE - that is the one fabled for it's penchant for head gaskets.

Cheers,

Brian.

So, just to confirm, a MK3 head will fit straight onto a MKIV engine?

Not any old mk3 head - the somewhat rare JZA70 mk3 head (from the 1JZ-GTE).

It does fit straight on afaik, not actually tried it myself though. Was tempted when I just had my JZA70 parked up sitting there for a while :D

I've just returned from a blast from the East Coast of Scotland to the West and back again and NEVER have I had so much fun in a car :D

I know the car I got from tDR is not exactly standard but the 1JZ-GTE is a fantastic engine and the way the power is delivered is insane

I don't know how many people I bored to death raving about the car whilst through in Oban but there were many :D

Took my father out who is an ex cop and he has done all his driving exams, pursit stuff and so on and would only drive it for a couple of miles as it terrified the life out him when it came on boost :eyebrows:

I've been in a couple of 3.0 Turbos (old MKiii) and very differnt to the 2.5 tt, as standard the 3.0 put out 250, 2.5 put out 280!

Right, off to bore someone else on how much I am enjoying this car, cheers again Brian :D
