AndrewOW
Joined a gym recently? Been on the running machine a bit too often? Within a month of joining a gym a couple of years ago, I did exactly that, and developed tendonitis in both knees. It was agony, and I had to stop going. I had to give up playing badminton (3x week), and even a holiday to some friends in Spain in that December was spoilt as I couldn't even walk up and down stairs in their unheated house. Cold is the worst! I used a decent 5% ibuprofen based gel which I put on my knees about 3 times a day, and now I am nearly back to normal. I'm cycling to work now, which really helps (and fitness), and also playing in a few badminton matches too. It initially developed about 2 years ago, so if you've got it, just ease right off with your exercise, and get some ibuprofen gel from the chemist etc. Its a 'positive' drug, so will encourage healing, but don't over use it too much. Hope that helps
Carl_S
I'm in agony mate. Its because I wore my trainers out of the gym and decided to do a few hundred meters running to the gym without warming up. just cos i had the trainers on. I always warm up about 3 times at the gym and never get a problem. so i just have to go and mess up ourside the gym dont I.. ow. ill look to see i might have some of that gel im my cupbord.. thanks andrew. Havard
I had achilles tendonitis in my late teens and it was a killer! Put an end to my promising football career...... It's an unusual pain, I'll give it that.... Where do you have it? H.

Havard
achilles.. left foot. Ooh bitch!! I don't know if this helps but my problem was that I was slightly flat footed (which is why I joined the Police). This was putting pressure on the outside of my achilles tendons and also the insides of my knees! I used Sorbothane insoles in my shoes and trainers as the cushioned the impact and also gave me a false arch on my feet. I had just had 6 months without playing footie getting the right foot sorted. Started playing again and the left one went. I had torn the fibres on the achilles tendon! One of the best things is rest unfortunately! This was also about 17 years ago, so they may have better ways of solving yoiur problem. H.
AndrewOW
Well take it easy then. Once you have it, it does take much longer than you want for it to go. That Kate Garraway developed it during Strictly Come Dancing, and I'd imagine she's on ibuprofen even now. Its nasty. There was nothing worse than thinking that if I had kids and couldn't run around with them, I'd never forgive myself for carrying on playing sport. It got that bad, I was in constant pain. I hope you enjoy your takeaway! A bit early in the day isn't it?!

It got infected and they ended up removing it. 10 months on crutches then the boot, nightmare. I now have a scar all the way up my calf. But its that which helps me walk propperly, the docs thought id have a pronounced limp.

Guest scottw74
I ripped the tendon in my wrist years ago when I played bass. Never bothered warming up (cos I'm too metal for that) and ripped it on tour. Was absolute agony. Got a scar there now, other arm has tendonitis too now. Warm ups are essential for any limb if you are going to be straining it during exercise etc. Think its a design flaw. Should have gone for heavy duty tendons instead of lightweight ones. Chris Wilson
Why is it these gym merchants, who eat health foods, don't smoke and live a "lifestyle" are always bloody moaning about some minor aches or pains on the internet, whilst the Irish navvy who does 20 times as much physical work, downs 15 pints of Guinness a night, smokes untipped fags, and eats from the Death Row Chippy, always seems fine and dandy? Just curious

Just curious Cheeky! I think its by trying to achieve too much too quickly IMO. I was always 'fit' from playing badminton/racquet sports, but wasn't used to a lot of medium pace running, and that's what set mine off. RSI is a nasty affliction

AndrewOW
they are crap you want some diclofenic (spelling?)the Tramadol i am taking at the minute a very good for stopping pain Yes that is good too, but only in the short term really, as it can have some nasty side effects (heart related/weakens veins etc IIRC). It did work for me, but it soon came back after I finished the course. At least you can use 5%-10% ibuprofen gel every day for continuous pain relief and healing. Mine still twinge a bit once in a while, but its much better now.
