Class One
Hi Guys, Just had a HPI check done and it stil owes finance! Is that ok? Does it affect anything?! If it still owes finance then it is technically the property of the finance company. Now the person that you are buying from may be using the money from the sale to pay off the finance, but there is no guarantee of that and you only have their word for it. If the finance is not paid off, then it is not theirs to sell, and the car could be subject to a reposession at some point in the future. Make sure you discuss this fully with the seller before going any further with your purchase.

Conrad
Hi Guys This was my car in question! It was the guy before me who had the finance but he cleared the loan at the time of my purchase (I witnessed this). Turns out the stupid finance company (Fenton Finance) never de-registered the car from the HPI list even though the loan was cleared back in July and they had no further financial interest in the car! Bloody idiots, they've now de-reg'd the car and it's now HPI clear! I was a little angry to say the least! Paul - you have PM mate.... Guest Rash
thing with finance companies is they will never take a car off hpi if the finance has been paid/cleared until someone does a hpi and then chases them up.. I bought a car a while ago and was showing finance owing from 1999...!! even though the owner paid off in 2001..!!! PITA to say the least but atleast its all sorted now.. SupraGirlie
Another Hpi check that I found quite useful, if you are looking at quite a few cars.. mobile service you text 88600 from you mobile, you have to type CHECK XX07XXX so thats check "space" registration of car you want to check, it costs £1.50, and you will receive three texts, thats 50p a text and it contains details of owners mileage last recorded at mot, and damage, and colours changes date of reg out standing finance, or written of category, etc...
