Alex
IT WORKS!!! After a 10hr operation split over 2 days the water pump and thermostat have been replaced...oh my god, how big a job was that. I'm not that mechanically minded so I'm quite impressed that I managed it (with guidance) I had to remove the; rad, fan, fan/rad shroud, air pipes, cam cover, block middle cover, lower cover, crank pulley (!), fan belt, fan belt tensioner, cam belt tensioner, turbo heatshield, probably some other bits and about a million bolts! Drove her last night (finished work at about 11pm!) and on a 10mile stint she was good as gold...and I was ragging her about in places. Kate has the car today as she's getting the windscreen replace (no I didn't throw a spanner through it!!) so hopefully the Sup will be have for Kate. Fingers crossed all is working now.... Nic
Alex Good to hear you got it sorted out, it is a good feeling when you get your car up and running again properly Out of interest how much is the new windscreen costing you? cheers
Guest Martin F
Well done Alex. It's so satisfying when you get these problems sorted yourself. Can you tell me why the crank pulley has to come off just to change the water pump ? Sounds like a bit of a PITA
Terminator
Nice one Alex, glad to hear the parts work OK. Was there anything obviously wrong with the old pump?

Oi - Terminator - explain yourself There is some sort of coverplate behind the pulley and in front of a couple of water pump bolts. It *is* a PITA, no mistake! What I didn't realise was how huge the water pump assembly is - where the old MkIII pump stopped with the impeller blades, the MkIV has a further housing containing said blades, and carries on into the outlet elbow with thermostat. -Ian
