Screamer Pipe... why?

I know of a lot of people that like to hear the wastegate dump. Especially the people driving beside you. :) Again it is easier and less restrictive to just make the dump instead of putting it back into the exhaust.

That is what happened when we made the CARB legal kit for some of our more restrictive states that are harder to pass emissions.

Cheers,

Joe

The technical reasoning is that the gases coming through the screampipe will interfere with the turbine outflow and 'ripple back' some backpressure.

This is true to an extent, especially if the meeting point of the pipes is within a foot of the turbine or their angle is steep.

If you can get the pipes to meet further down at a shallow angle it should be no problem flow-wise, but you lose the 'wow' factor when the wastegate opens up!

Its cheaper and some people like the noise.

I am putting together a new kit for myself which routes back into the exhaust as the screamer reduces the number of trackdays I can go to.

Wez, have a word with Arnout. I got my manifold and downpipe kit he created and it all feeds back into the exhaust trail, its not on the car yet but looks a tidy setup

Thats the setup I have but the wastegate mounting pipe was supplied with the wrong flange for my wastegate.

I am looking at getting a custom downpipe made based on this setup, the idea being to make the downpipe include the cat 1 section with a flex included, I have no need for a seperate cat 1 pipe.

Then to make it even quieter I want to modifiy a cat 2 pipe and fit an inline silencer.

I am Hoping these mods bring the noise right down so i can do more trackdays :D
