Are you saying it starts banging when just the pilot light is on? Or when It is on full flame and then it all cut's off? What boiler do you have?

Yeh, when on full flame it starts banging and then blows the flame out completely :(

I have got someone coming to look at it next week, so I am not going to muck about with it anymore.

Thanks for your responses, just wasn't sure if it might be something really simple that I was missing.

It's a Glow Worm Fuel Save Mk II .... btw :search:

could possibly be that the pump is stuck - firing up, but because the pump is not circulating , it then goes into an overheat situation, and the pilot cuts out as a safety precaution. Although i'm a boiler engineer, i am not familiar with the glow worm range.

You could always check to see if the pump is circulating. Normally if the fan is not turning the boiler should not fireup.

cheers

Thanks Ian...to be honest, that's what it sounds like is happening. The banging seems to be coming from the water pipe that comes out of the top of the boiler and it sounds like the pump is just not working properly.

Thanks agian mate...will get the pump looked at too

You were spot on mate.

Went round my GFs house and told her Dad what you said.

He is one of those blokes that never throws aything away and had a spare pump lying around that was exactly the same as the one we already had installed.

Swapped them over and bish bash bosh...I am no longer freezing!

Thanks :D:):D
