Homer
Since I bought the car I've had trouble with wheel hop. It's not really got any worse in the 3 years I've had it, but makes it difficult to use in wet weather. Mark (Phoenix) has gone over the whole rear end and found all the suspension components in excellent condition, drop links and shocks are brand new. What he did find was there was a lot of 'slack' in the diff. I.e. if you rotate one wheel it takes quite a bit of movement until the other one starts turning, likewise, if you hold one wheel it takes a long time until the prop moves. Mark said he could adjust something in the diff to take the slack out of it, but I’ve not heard of this being done before. Does anyone have an experience of this? If it is possible, is it worth doing anything else while the diff is apart? As much I would like one I cannot afford a TRD diff right now.
Ian C
Give CW a bell, he's good with diffs and he could probably do the adjustment if it involves lots of comples measuring and shimming and stuff. -Ian

This slack is called backlash. You adjust this by playing with the ring-gear shims. Moving the ring gear closer to the pinion will reduce backlash, but too close, and you will cause excessive heat and corresponding wear the teeth. Wez
I have also read that replacing the LSD mounts can help with wheel hop as they wear over time. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=431133&postcount=

Backlash - thats what Mark was talking about, thanks mate I have also read that replacing the LSD mounts can help with wheel hop as they wear over time. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=431133&postcount=7 Thanks Wez, might as well swap them while the driff is out. Terminator
I have also read that replacing the LSD mounts can help with wheel hop as they wear over time. http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showpost.php?p=431133&postcount=7 The bolts are stretch items and should only be used once according to the manual. I did not have any spares when I swapedmy diff four years ago. I think you can get away with it at bpu, but singles may be pushing the bolts too far on second use. I have a set, but never fitted them. If you get stuck you can have mine if you replace them for me when my car comes off the road.
