I read somewhere that if you are stopped by the police and they find your windows are too tinted you will not be able to drive on and will have to get your car towed home.......which would be a pain in the arse:(

I've never heard of anyone getting tugged for OTT tints... and I live in Essex where the coppers will pull you for driving outside of rush hour!

Anyone been pulled for this? Or know anyone who has?

Dont get me wrong I know they can pull you for it but they are more likely to just add it to the list if they nick you for something else.

looks good as long as you dont go for dark tint on the rear windows and hatch and leave front untinted, that just looks crap.

i had medium tint all way round on my old supe and that looks nicely finished

I think you'll find most tint shops now won't even touch the fronts with anything other than completely untinted security film, cos it comes back on them (the law) if they have tinted a car to an illegal level.

The actual problem that people gloss over is that clear glass (at average car window thickness) allows 86% light transmission, all manufacturers add tint of some kind for cooling and UV protection etc. which brings it down to between 70% and 80%, if you add ANY film you risk going below the 65% limit. The clause in the Construction and Use regs amendments that says they will only give points if you have less than 30% light transmission means you'd probbaly get away with it but I bet they can and some do give points for a lot higher than that, and like I said the shops won't risk prosecution for it any more anyway.

BTW I had med smoke on my rear screen and dark on my quarters.

now that was a good find!

so if a copper can judge that by his eyes and issue

a fine or prohibition notice what else could they do???

It's darn good but fails to mention which windows are affected. Assuming that just the windscreen and windows forward of the B post could be costly.

Also doesn't mention different light conditions. Reckon all tints are gonna have to be tested before fit.

Any window that is situated behind the drivers seat is not included in any regs about tints, it can be replaced with MDF if you so wish. Anything FORWARD from the drivers seat has to allow 65% light through (see my previous), and the windscreen has another reg that I'm not sure of, but basically you definitely can't add tint to the windscreen!
