Ark
There was a short series on tv recently called "Shadow of the Shark". Very interesting, and it provided some useful ammunition against shark hunting, and against the very idea of sharks being dangerous. Yes, there are attacks. No one denies that. However, the majority of attacks are cases of mistaken identity, and are just taster-bites. Sharks normally let go after the first bite, because humans don't taste of fish, and they don't like the flavour. I'm off diving in a couple of weeks - the location should be good for grey reef sharks, maybe five footers. They're always good for a laugh. But after a tester bite from a shark that big, I don't know how many people would survive! Fascinating creatures, great photos. I assume the guy was left alone?! Have fun diving! Ark
But after a tester bite from a shark that big, I don't know how many people would survive! True, mostly people would die if a great white took a bite, but that doesn't make those sharks either aggressive or particularly dangerous. Remember that we are in their domain in the water, not the other way around. Anyway, more people die from bee stings than from shark attacks, so you need to keep some perspective. Fascinating creatures, great photos. I assume the guy was left alone?! Have fun diving! Thanks, I intend to!

colsoop
Impressive animals, there was a program on discovery called "air jaws" about great whites at seal island, they were leaping clean out of the water taking seals in ambush, worth a watch. Ian C
Anyway, more people die from bee stings than from shark attacks, so you need to keep some perspective. Skewed statistic Bees are rather more accessible and there is the chance of an allergic reaction. How many sharks you seen at a picnic? May as well say "more people die from driving than from firing a bullet through their head!" It's true because a lot more people die than fire bullets at their own head. Now, if you use the ratio of bee stings to deaths from them compared to the ratio of shark bites to deaths from them, I'm fairly sure sharks will suddenly appear to be a touch more dangerous than yer average buzzy critter -Ian
jim_supra
Cool pics, and that is the sort of thing I kept imagining when I was Sea Kayaking in Oz!
wkdtime
Anyway, more people die from bee stings than from shark attacks, so you need to keep some perspective. If there were as many shark's as there were bee's then im pretty sure that the above statement would be incorrect:)
Daston
there was a program a while back of sharks it showed footage of a school trip out looking for sharks one girl went over board paniced and had her leg taken off! The guy said she was very lucky as it just "niped" her! However she did the stupid thing of thrashing around making all the sharks go "ooh wonder what that is"
