Single Turbo Catridge Angle

So what's the desired angle for the feed/return flanges?? And should they go clockwise or anticlockwise?? I was going to move it just one postion over, but am having a slight issue with my return hose. I can get round it if i really need to but want to know how far can i turn the cartridge before it's not getting the most amount of spray from the oil.

As far as I could find, most of the pro's stateside said not to allow more then 5deg off verticle otherwise the oil would pool/whip up inside the cartridge rather than working is way down the drain (Which could lead to overheat and/or blown turbo seals)

I found my return was pointing directly into the 1st runner (XS power manifold), thankfully the BL oil kit came with a 40deg male/male adaptor that allowed the aeroquip style hose fitting to clear the runner, but only by about 6mm  It's still too close for my liking...

I can't see how you'd get the turbo to be near verticle AND have a straight fitting on the return.

Are those pics of your return pipe???

If they are you may be better off sourcing a steel tube drain pipe. That would be smaller than those fittings and clear the exhaust flanges with no problems.

Now shouldn't it be angle in the opposite direction Darryl?? I was just looking over various engine bay pictures i have of single installs and they seem to be either dead straight of angled in the other direction. If it doesn't matter then im laughing and it'll be fine :)

Could be a good question there! Thinking about it, it seems logical that it'd be better to have it angled vertical (obviously), or a few degrees the other way due to the clockwise rotation of the shaft.

Terry said it's fine how it is, +/- 5deg should be okay.

Will be interested to hear what the techie bods think though.

Vertical, or as vertical as possible. Once you start getting past about 10deg off vertical you start getting pooling inside the cartridge.

The exit hose should be very wide and unconvoluted as it's purely gravity fed. You can bend it a bit (homers' has a typical zigzag out of the housing to get past the manifold, mine has the same, as do many others I've seen).
