Autoboost Cast Manifold

Could someone please point me in the direction of the recent comments on these boys? (cant find in 'search mode')

I believe they had some +'ve feedback on the supraforums... just needed porting a tad more...

I got one in to check it out... seems a nice piece of kit - well made etc..

Cheers

My understanding of 'casting' isn't very good, so I'd like to ask.. is the part (the 'runners') still welded to the back plate, and if so, is this a concern for welding fractures like it is on a tubular manifold? I understand one of Arnout's reasons for going cast (as well as faster spool), was because of the unreliability of tubular manifolds.

That'll be four that I've heard of now - Supras.nl, PHR street kit, the one that nobody liked (turbonetics? - the reason Arnout made his better one), and this one..

how much ££ ?

1. supras.nl

2. PHR Street Kit

3. Turbonetics/Arnout

4. Autoboost

5. Induction Motorsport - whats fitted to mine

Iron castings cannot be easily, or usually very successfully, welded. AFAIK these manifolds are all cast in one piece. What they are cast from is very important, but I doubt any except Arnout will be able or indeed willing to give a material spec.

It's got the small wastegate hole that Arnout didn't like (didn't leave much mating surface after porting), and he talks about cracks occuring in the Induction Motorsports one, so I'm weary. I guess the price is good. Arnout's unit is maybe £450 incl delivery, and this is £200 including delivery.

Mine also has an enlarged wastegate port, the reason for this is boost control. The smaller wastegate ports suffer from boost creep as they simply do not allow enough flow away from the turbo.

I dont know of any other Induction Motorsport kits outside the US, where can I read about the manifold cracking?

Yep, but the problem with the turbonetics (and by the looks of it, this eBay one) was that after porting enough, there was hardly any surface left for the gasket. See below - top is the turbonetics one, bottom is Arnout's proper enlarged jobbie

You already read and replied to it almost a year ago ;)

Half way down ( http://www.mkivsupra.net/vbb/showthread.php?t=27533 )

Cast iron ones are much stronger, and much less likely to crack. A really good tubular one costs a fortune, as it would need to be Inconel to be really crack resistant, and still the turbo and wastegate should have additional support, this is rareley (never?) included with the manifold kit. A cast iron one is strong enough to support the turbo and wasteagte without additional cradling. A cast one keeps heat in (good) better than a tubular one.

A tubular one will probably flow better than nearly all cast ones, it will be lighter, and you may consider it looks nicer. On a race car, with their expected high maintenance levels, and sacrificial parts, an Inconel tubular one would be the best choice. IMO, on a road car, a cast one will give you a LOT less grief, with pretty negligible performance loss.

I have been to hell and back finding redundant stock cast iron manifolds for my Skyline projects, and for a Mazda FD I modded. They have proven pretty much maintenance free, with extended track usage and ultra severe temps. All the tubular ones, bar exotic bespoke stuff, I have seen, have all cracked over a relatively short time. Others will disagree :)

Here are pics of my manifold off the car, the induction motorsport manifolds are also beefed up in the wastegate area and then opened up to allow for better flow.

That looks pretty good! How was the price?

I'd like one of these and a ~61 sized turbo which fits with the stock downpipe, and stock intercooler/air piping.

Cant remember the price, email these guys :-

I am using a PHR Stage 1 which is about that size, the kit came with a downpipe as you can see but I had a custom one made by hayward and scott.

Apparently this will take a 38 mm wastegate - will this be sufficiently large?

Not really comparing to Arnaut's - but the price is right

I cant see that it can be ported too much with compromising the integrity of the fitting... hence my question
