Bobbeh
I had a little rubber peel on the top, not as much as that, but I cleaned it off and put it back on.
Ray
IIRC my mr2 had a spring built into the radiator cap...

RICHARDA
If that is a o/e cap should it not have a plastic bit that is in the centre? I have an aftermarket CW cap who told me that the stock caps can loose this centre bit in the rad with age. HTH Rich
Ray
hmmm im thinkin now to get an aftermarket Cap aswell... How much BHP increase will i get with this mod? haha
Branners
Im with the doom mongers on this, I think the spring is missing. When my rad cap failed the spring and little bits of plastic fell on to the radiator core. Leon fished them all out but it wasnt easy. JB

Chris Wilson
The none return valve bit is missing, you need a new cap, Toyota changed the design eliminating a mild steel bit that corroded away, to either all plastic, or to stainless steel (I have seen both). I now check ALL caps and renew any that look even slightly iffy. Without a pressurised system the MKIV engine will lose water and / or boil up. Potentially disastrous.
