Konrad
I currently have: AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.65GHz - 512 MB Ram It's enough unless your second job is graphic designer and you need to render stuff in 3D studio Max Add 1 GB of RAM and SATA HDD if your mainboard is compatibile with SATA and you should be fine. Reinstalling system on computer after 3 years of using it can help also Btw. what makes you think your computer is "slow" ?
Gamer
I currently have: AMD Athlon XP 2200+ 1.65GHz - 512 MB Ram You will be limited by your motherboard. You need to check what is the highest speed processor it can support. Probably not what you want to hear but to see some real performance gains you would be better off selling the set-up you have now and getting something that is a bit newer. That processor was released in 2001-2002, 5 years in computer terms is almost a lifetime.
Pete
Reinstall windows - you'll be amazed how much quicker it is. Defrag? Getting hold of Diskkeeper is a good benefit. Windows XP really needs 1Gb - I'd upgrade the RAM first. Maybe a bigger faster hard drive.

Daston
If you download a little program thats called CPU-Z it will tell you all about your system ie the make and modle of motherboard. You can then search their website to find out what CPU's it supports, if it supports a faster one you may well beable to get an old XP chip off ebay for £

geoffvalenti
TBH Col, the amount of difference you'd notice upgrading that motherboard to the fastest CPU it could run, is negligible. Its a bit like taking a Mk3 N/A Supra, and by sticking in the most powerful engine available at the time, trying to make it run like Mkiv TT

Guest gzaerojon
for now if you want a speed up you could turn off all the flashy xp bits so it runs fairly basic visuals, also maybe up the virtual memory
