Pig
I have been chatting with a mate and we are wondering why you need 2 fuel pumps? If the one died, surely the car would just stop like you have run out of fuel. I have tried to search, but could find anything. Please assume the question is for a big powered single. Gamer
IIRC a single pump will only flow up to 550bhp or near that. I could be wrong though....

Thorin
IIRC a single pump will only flow up to 550bhp or near that. I could be wrong though.... No that's about the size of it. For in-tank pumps anyway. You can get higher output external pumps I think but they are rather noisy and you'd still need to mess about with a swirl pot etc.
bondango
Basically the biggest in-tank pump for little money is the walbro 255lph pump, as pointed out, 550hp is around the safest power the pump can supply at full tilt. 2 pumps are a very cost effective way of doing a fuel system upgrade, and relatively easy to install. thats 510lph of fuel, plenty for most people. You can use an external pump, Fuellabs do nice 600lph external pumps, but to do a setup like this properly you need to be thinking of a fuel swirl pot and a decent in tank pump to prime. Alex
Ian managed 630 at the fly on 1 Walbro.
Thorin
Ian managed 630 at the fly on 1 Walbro. On a similar note Alex, is Ian running stock fuel pressure?
bondango
I agree alex, Though other factors come into play such as injector size and fuel pressure, most of all the tuning/mapping so better low balling the figure for saftey IMHO
Alex
Less than stock pressure.

terribleturner
Ian managed 630 at the fly on 1 Walbro. And doesn't Matt Harwood use just the one on his single??
Guest DaveH
I made 602 rwhp on a dynojet dyno with a single Walbro, but that is pushing it farther than is safe IMO.
Nic
I've ordered an OEM UK spec Supra pump for my single install, as it seems to be one of the highest rated pumps at 280L/hr. They are not too expensive and are a lot quieter than the likes of Walbro, HKS, etc. Some useful info about fuel pumps here: http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/fuel_pumps_test_2/index.html

Wez
http://www.mkiv.com/techarticles/fuel_pumps_test_2/index.html The max flow for different injectors look different to what was worked out in another thread on here recently. EDIT: cant find the damn thread now
Wez
Reading that link it says the stock pump (UK/US) is 290lph compared to the walbro 255lph at 40psi and 223lph at 60psi with the stock pump at 263lph. If this is the case why upgrade to the walbro and why is it marketed as an upgrade, I know the JAP pump flows a little less than the US/UK unit. Is the stock UK pump more expensive than a Walbro? michael
Is the stock UK pump more expensive than a Walbro? Very much so, I think you can buy twin Walbros for the price of one UK.

michael
Nic - I'm still planning my setup but could you PM me a price for a UK pump please, I have one new one ready to go in but I'm thinking of a twin-UK setup.
Alex
The other benefit of the walbro's is their current draw. They don't need as much ampage to hit high flow rates as the stock UK one.

Alex
A Twin UK setup will need much beefier electrical cable from the battery....you will have to bypass the fuel computer...basically you'll have to run a whole new load of electrics. Which might not be an issue, but it's worth noting.
