captainchaos
Been through all the posts about this i have steamy windows too when i first start the car but the smell and the steam goes away after running it for a while, and i dont have a leak into the passenger foot well like ive seen in other cases. Any ideas what it could be?

michael
The smell will be bacteria in the air con system, you can buy stuff from Halfords to help with this or get a pro in to clean it out - they just let off a 'bomb' in the car, close the doors and let the air con run for a while. The moisture could just have built up if the car has been stood for a while - give it a good run out with heater on full blast and see if this helps (it will also help kill the bacteria in the pipes). Chris Wilson
Probably early stages of a leaking heater matrix. Budget for it NOW, it's a horrible job and expensive.

Chris Wilson
Check the drain from the heater box is clear, it may be clogged up, fingers crossed...
Kranz
Check the drain from the heater box is clear, it may be clogged up, fingers crossed... There should be a 'duck bill' drain that lets the aircon water drain out. If not & the steam smells sweet then its probably the heater matrix. I had to do this in my old ZX and had to take the entire dashboard & steering column out

Kranz
not a sweet smell smells like curry lol More likely to be bacteria infested water in the air con system then. Check the drain's not blocked as CW says and then clean it out with the Halfrauds stuff or similar. Air con systems are the main way of catching Leigionaires disease, so cleaning is a good idea!
