ajazyasin
Ive searched the site and there is a variety of opinions on this. What aftermarket(forged) rods, pistons, and other gubins do you recommend for a car hoping to run 550-600hp using a single GT40/67. Ive seen combinations of eagle rods and wiseco pistons for around $1000 state side. any good?
Alex
Stock will handle 600bhp fine. If you insist on a rebuild of a perfectly healthy engine I'd use; CP Pistons and Carillo or Eagle Rods.
ajazyasin
want to future proof the car
Alex
Then what I've suggested stands. The CP pistons are light and strong, and not that expensive. The Carillo rods are very strong but not light. The Eagle rods are supposed to be stronger than stock...and very light.
ajazyasin
Any other gubbins you suggest to change whilst its under the knife?
Alex
ARP rod bolts. New stock Head gasket, no need for an expensive HKS version. Clevelite(sp?) Bearings. Head work? 1mm oversized valves with Ti retainers...and some beefed up valve springs to go with your 256in 264ex cams.
ajazyasin
Ive got crower springs+retainers and Ferrea 6000series valves. Cams as mentioned. Ive actually got a Soarer and I am planning on buying a 2jzgte bottom end to do the 1.5jz conversion. Just want to collect all the bits before hand. Where can you get these bearings and how much should i expect to pay? thanks

Miguel
OEM bearings aren't bad either and are available in a bigger range of sizes than Clevites. Before you go ordering bearings you will need to measure your crank to know what size you need. Clevites are good but so are OEM. There are some very big power cars running stocks and clevites so the choice is yours. Power enterprise also make a good bearing too.

Nic
Power enterprise also make a good bearing too. Here is info about the Power Enterprise bearings. If you need a source for these let me know. http://www.power-enterprise.co.jp/products/english/main/engine/metal/f1_metal.htm
ajazyasin
these bearing seem to be good. Where can they be sourced? ta!
Renar
I would suggest to stay away from Eagle rods and wiseco pistons are not that great either. I suggest you get CP pistons and carrillo rods, if carrillo h-beam seems to be too pricy, you cannot go wrong with a-beam either if you are not shooting for really high HP. RobSheffield
I would suggest to stay away from Eagle rods and wiseco pistons are not that great either. Any reasoning behind this?
Renar
Sure, Eagle rods habve the rod bolts as a pretty weak part. Anyone buying Eagle rods should change, the rod bolt is the most common reason for Eagle rod failure. And lighter rods = less durability. However if you don't planning to make tons of power and high RPM, you should be fine when upgrading to Eagle. They beat the stock parts, but since you are upgrading i think everyone should invest a tad more and get a notch better rods than the Eagle. Oh, and Carrillos usually are just drop in rods, as for Eagles you most of the time need resizing, pin bore honing etc. I guess the question you should ask is if you really want to save a bit of money and have a much greater risk of engine failure. There is always a reason for parts being cheap I hope this helps

Syed Shah
Eagle rods now come with ARP bolts, so their only real weakpoint is now solved.
