Anyone done this and have any advice/links?

My brother wants to do this maybe next year, and I'd definately be up for it, but we'd have to be driving a decent car to make it worth doing. :D

Done a search on Google, but can't really find any sites to see how much a month hire would be for a decent vehicle.

Any help please

Just check out Enterprise, or Avis.. I'm sure there are other more specialist car companies who will provide you with something more flashy like a Mustang or Vette. you can get a varied range from them, it will be dirt cheap petrol wise and getting around is easy.

Where are you planning on going? :)

Me too I'd love to do this. I've always said it. I'd start at Newyork, then head down to Washington DC, Orlando, New Orleans, Houston, then up to Oklahoma, before heading north east towards Indianapolis and up to Chicago, and over to Minneappolis, [my friend has grandparents there], then over to wyoming, to salt lake city and Las vegas, then eventually to the west coast San fransisco and down to LA

BIt of a crazy route, but would be amazing. :D

yep, been there and got the t-shirt. a while ago, i did a 6500 mile trip all over the Western USA and Canada.

trying to remember it all. lol

started in LA, then through San Joaquin Valley to Yosemite (via Fresno). then to San Francisco (along the merced river).

from SF went up the Pacific Coast Highway and stopped in Eureka, then onto Newport. from there went to Mt St Helens and Mt Ranier, then up to Vancouver.

from Vancouver (BC), went to Victoria, and back to Vancouver. then up to see confluence of the Fraser and Thompson rivers. then to Kamloops, Jasper, Lake Louise and Banff (inc all the local canyons and lakes).

from Banff down to Glacier National Park and Yellowstone. on to Salt Lake City, Bryce and Zion Canyons. finally down to Las Vegas and Grand Canyon, and last stop LA and back home :D

really recommend that journey, took 1500 transparencies and over 800 photos :D

next time its gonna be Eastern Half, and then after that the road trip to end them all, across the USA and Canada :D

i did it in just over 3 weeks as the place i used to work refused to give me more time off in one go.

i had to fly home for the friday, got to Bexhill at about 7PM, then had to be at work for 8AM next morning. had to run the place on my own as the other guy was laid on the floor with a hernia, and the other guy was a trainee :( and the boss was going to a wedding.

was a mixture of car and Greyhound. always wanted to ride a greyhound bus, :)
