Charlotte
I haven't seen the news for a while and have only just read the reports about the man and the balcony incident, see here:- Clicky What a horrible horrific story. But..my question is, how is he being charged with attempted suicide? Sorry for being dense but is it illegal?
Supragal
Yes suicide is illegal.
Kittyclaws
It is horrible, and it is strange to be charged with attempted suicide, must be one of the laws in Crete
Supragal
Apparently he's been put in a greek prison which is a high security jobbie full of rapists and murders, which is great considering his bloke has become the nations most hated.... good luck then. Oh dear. I read in a magazine last night (it was 'closer' so probably lies) but apparently the doctor from the hospital said when the guy realises what he's done, he should commit suicide. Alex
I don't think he's as bad as all that and I certainly don't think he's the most hated man in Britain...I think he got drunk, had a huge argument, which was started by his wife threatening to take herself and the kids away and then due to his previous confused mental state (double suicide in the family) decided if he couldn't have his kids no one would. Personlly I think he needs help. Psychiatric(sp) help, and a secure unit. And yes Suicide is a crime. But usually you're not alive to have charges pressed against you!! Charlotte
Is that why mortgage insurances etc don't pay out if your partner kills themselves? It's interesting to know, I never did before. I go between agreeing with you and feeling like he deserves all he gets. I agree that he is clearly in no fit state mentally but those poor children. Hopefully the girl is too young to remember what happened to her.

Class One
Suicide in the UK was decriminalised, but remains on the staute books.

Kittyclaws
One of the worst suicides i have heard of over here is when a mother threw herself in front of a train whilst holding onto her little girl, then it turns out she was pregnant too, so the Driver had to deal with 3 deaths in one go. I believe he is still off track and may never work again

Off work on full pay for 'trauma' for an indefinite period? Yes please! Yes suicide is illegal. Send them to the gallows! Pete
I don't care how desperate you are - to actually throw your own kids off a balacony with intent to kill them is totally unforgivable. I'd have thrown the wife off.
i-macca
Horrible though the incident may have been, how many of us would seriously turn down a meal-ticket like that? Off work on full pay for 'trauma' for an indefinite period? Yes please! That is an awful thing to say! Unless you've been through it, I really don't think anybody can imagine the kind of trauma you must get from somebody jumping in front of a train that you're driving. I certainly wouldn't like to go to sleep every night with an image of some idiot plastering themselves across the windscreen in front of me, knowing there's nothing I could do about it.. stupra
How the fuck anyone can kill their own kids (or try) is a totally beyond me. The guy may need help, but he's sick in more ways than one.

Supragal
I hope not as that would mean he was in the wrong place. And the system had yet again failed society. He's in Greece isn't he? No air con, 16 hours a day locked in a small room with lots of other inmates that hate him for what he's done. He's gonna be s-o-r-e.

Class One
Is he going to be sent back to the UK? No he's being tried under Greek law as he committed the crime in Crete.
Ian R
I think its pretty tragic. Why did his wife decide to tell him on holiday it was over ??? He must be mentally ill to do such a thing, if he is not dealt with correctly then he will end up trying to top himslef again. I heard that he refused all pain killers in hospital because he believed he should suffer for what he had done
