i think he's referring to facelift RZ and RZ-S's, the pre facelift RZ's were a mix of UK and Jap brakes AFAIK.

Going off this PDF document, a 93-95 RZ model had smaller brakes as standard with the option of bigger brakes.

In 1995 the RZ model was split into the RZ-S (95-97) and the *new* RZ (95-97). The RZ-S had smaller brakes as standard with the option of bigger brakes. The RZ had bigger brakes as standard.

'Facelift' models are 97+ models.

Out of all import 'facelift' models, only the 97-02 RZ model had bigger brakes as standard. The SZ, SZ-R, SZ-R Aerotop and RZ-S all had smaller brakes as standard, but all had the option of bigger brakes.

when do these engines start to struggle then - as in become too old to run economically, without replacing lots of components etc..?

I know its a very open-ended question - could be anywhere from 0+ really - but just trying to get a rough idea. VAG cars are said to be really "hardy" and go on and on like a duracell, but I think after 140k its pushing it tbh.

Everything depends on how its been looked after.

Crhis Wilson services a 300k mile UK car thats still on stock turbo's, etc.

On the other hand one of the members had a 40k mile VVTi that had a completely clogged engine due to lack of servicing (probably never had an oil change). Its being rebuild from the block up now...

Well think I have made up my mind to get a imported manual. Reason for this that I really looking forward to saucing one and think that will be through are man Jurgen as looking at the cars he’s got and what people have said cant go wrong so no pressure fella ;)

Also going to go for the Manual as I am not using this as a every day car so I would have more fun in one i think. Also looking to spend some money on it over time so spec between UK and Jap is too small to worry about it and most Jap ones are not standard anyway.
