This may sound silly to you guyz......Not had Supra long, its manual 6 speed TT. Have had on motorway, but cant seem to change it into 6th Gear. Have be doing about 180kmph at 4,500 Revs in 5th gear.. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.. As really need to get into 6th gear0-if only to use less fuel ;) lol

cheers

Will it go into 6th with the engine off? If not then you have an obstruction, either something in the shifter (boot, dust seal, etc.) or someone put the shifter back together wrong after clutch change. If it will go into 6th sitting in the driveway with the engine off this tells you that the shift mechanism is Ok and you likely have syncro issues. A full change to V160 oil might help, but I doubt it. Rebuild time or do without sixth.

Thanks eerybody for comments.. have taken off centre console and removed gear gaiter etc.. o the gearstick base there was a rubber washer not in properly.. placed in correct place. BUT still no joy..

Getting annoyed now!! and thinkin ive been ripped off buying the car as 6th gear doesnt work

Is there a way to know if the gearbox has 6 gears or not.. Cant seem to find 6th gear with engine off either.. Just goes into reverse..

its a bizzare gate, you need to come back out of 5th, and move slightly to the left, then back into 6th, its not a straight gate like you would expect

really? I've never noticed that, thought it was just straight down from 5th. The only thing I've noticed is general clunkyness and a bit of resistance when going from 1st to 2nd when cold.

Very strange you can't get 6th when the enigne is off, are you accidently pushing down on the stick and it's going into the reverse location every time instead of 6th? maybe the reverese spring mechanism has gone and so you get reverse not 6th, try making sure the gear leaver is lifted when you go for 6th gear

Do you have to lift/push the gear knob up or down to engage reverse???

Never had to since purchased car..or had in 6th.

So i have to push down on gearstick to put into reverse

and 6th gear just straight down from 5th?

If this is the case what has gone?if it is the reverse spring mechanism-Is it a garage job and expensive?

cheers

Where is reverse? It should be hard left and forward in a 6 speed Getrag. It also has a gear lever with a collar on it, that needs lifting to enable the detent to clear in order to get reverse. If reverse is far right and back you have a 5 speed box. If that's the case you'd better look to see if you have turbos, too. The TT was never made with a 5 speed box in the MKIV shell. I guess it's possible to fit the N/A 5 speed box to a TT to flog it to an unsuspecting punter. The question "test drive" comes to mind, did you not check it engaged all 6 gears??? A pal has a 3 speed Fiat, you could be just the man he's looking for ;)

was a private sale.. The gear knob is non standard think its OZ make.

hard left and forward is 1st gear! Reverse is all the way to the right and back

This is a RHD TT 6 speed supra(Having doubts about gearbox now.& Defo Turbo!!

No need for sarcasim-Chris Wilson.

The 6-speed is Hard Right Collar Up and back for reverse.

Is this a wind up, if not i'm sorry but you have been well and truly shafted, go find the guy you brought this off of, did you know it was surposed to be 6 speed and did he imply that it was 6 speed if so you then you have a case and should demand your money back as this deosn't sound right, if you don't have the lift up plastic part to put into reverse then  you don't have the same 6 speed box alot of us have.
