Good Old Toyota

I'd bet that some pillock has thought they have jacked it up on the engine crossmember, but the plastic under-shields have hidden the exact spot and they have actually jacked it up on the sump...

Having just done 2 engine mounts in situ, and found what an utter PITA that is I would say they will have to remove the engine to renew the sump. Probably needs a new oil pump pickup assembly too, as that is most likely bent to *uggery. At least they didn't road test it.... :)

YET!!!! I'd be inclined to note your mileage if you've not already, it would be quite tempting for someone to possibly repair it say a day or so before telling you its ready, to allow for some rigorous road testing......

What does it take to show people they are handing over their cat to muppets at a main dealer.

I just cant see why anyone would want to take their car to Toyota, Paul you talk as though Toyota could break as much as they want, because its ok, its going to be genuine Toyota parts by a genuine Toyota dealer, when they could/probably have a young lad who doesnt know sod all about Supras doing the work. Personally I would always use a smaller independent mechanic.

Have you had a top speed run in the Ka........????

D'oh. Major cock-up.

I took a car to a dealer for a service once, turned out they'd broken a spark-plug and let some of it go down No3 cylinder. (Never told me tho'). Diving home, there was more smoke comin' out of it than a crematorium!

Took about a week with various managers, and their 'technical expert', to find out some X-burger flipper had been trying to clear the cylinder with a magnet......Ha!

They ended up replacing the engine with a recon one, and had the car for 3 weeks. I had a courtesy car in the mean-time.

Wot's happened is obviously crappy, but keep pushing if you aint happy. Go to the top man and get the full story, coz some-one needs their butt kicked.

Otherwise I'd do wot Dude says and get the car outta there and get one of this lot to fix it up. Send Toyota the bill innit!!:(

Remember as far as a main dealer is concerned its an 'OLD' car now , it may be your pride and joy but in car years its a dinosaur !!!! they are used to servicing 1-2 year old avensis's not a 'classic' like the supra!!!!

I asked one of the mechanics at Toyota once that topped up my oil on my Celica for free! 'Do you see many Supra's?' he replied we've worked on one or two but there's not many people that can afford them.

Like Dude says this is an old car to them, they really only deal with the Avensis and Yaris etc. Best taken to a specialist that knows there stuff. Plus they are far too expensive.

Anyway this doesn't help you just a waning to others. Good luck with it all anyway.

suppose all main dealers will have young lads doing the mundane service jobs leaving the mechanics to do the more serious jobs.

i have never took mine to get a service. go to people who have a good reputation who you know you can trust. i would always stay with car if its nothing major.

you will get it sorted, but i bet you its put you off going back

Thanks for all the comments, I took my car to Toyota as I want my car still to have FTSH for when I ever sell it as it has 9 years history allready. I had loads of confidence in Toyota as a smaller garage probably hasn’t worked on many Supra’s either! So taking it to Toyota where I have a bit more comeback if anything goes wrong, which it has. But for them to say they have ordered the part and that it’s going to be here ASAP is I suppose good enough, and I have a new Kia courtesy car to drive until it’s fixed. If anything goes wrong when I finally get it back then of course it’ll go straight back to Toyota. They more than anyone should have the right gear to work on any UK car, or so you should think!!! Lol

Anyway I’m going to go speak to the manager and see what sort of compensation I can get from them and how long I should be waiting, if it’s a couple of weeks fair enough but if it’s 4-6 then I want some sort of money back from them.

Will the engine definetly need to come out when they fit the new Sump? If so I’d really not trust Toyota to do this, I suppose I’d have to chat with the manager and maybe see what his thoughts would be about getting Leon/Chris who are specialists to do the car, and them pay for it of course but I can’t see them doing that!!

I'll take two bags of whatever chillout potion you are currently taking sir, you are far too relaxed!

:)

I've had my own bad experiences with Toyota and have yet to hear of anyone with a Supra that actually rates their local dealership - mine was supposed to be a Supra specialist but I suspect that was ages ago when they sold them, no doubt the mechanics who got the extra training are long gone.

I took mine to them for one reason only, to get a stamp on the FTSH so that I could explain to the next owner than I was more than happy to use them (ie I'm not cutting corners) but found I got much better service from "X" or "Y" so used them instead.

Good luck with the repairs but I really think you should be shouting up a little bit more now, if they really want to I bet they can get the part a lot quicker.

I think youve got every right to take the car to CW and have toyota pay for his labour to put the damage right , like Termmy said i wouldnt let T change my wiper blades and a Full TSH would not give me any confidence in the cars upkeep , if you had been in the motor trade you would know excactly what i mean .

Agreed. It is though a good indication of the way the previous owners have looked after the car. Private owners pay top dollar to take their cars to T because they believe that is the best place for the work to be done. Whether it is or not is a matter of opinion.

FTSH just shows that previous owners were serious about how the car was maintained.

I gave up on main dealer book stamps ages ago, and had new cars too, never stopped me getting a good price for my cars either. Years ago I did use a main dealer, but got fed up with high prices for bad workmanship and with putting things right that they messed up or did not do. Got ripped off being charged for part’s charged but not fitted. I had an oil filter I put paint on and got it back, just proved to me that they never even looked under the car. FSH’s are fine if you believe in them personally I do not believe that it a guarantee that things have been done properly.

If it were me I would go to some one like Chris to get this sorted because he knows a lot about them and takes pride in what he does and has to live on a reputation not a Logo.

If you stick with T, I just hope they do not take you for a ride.

You'll be able to add a bill for a nice new sump to that FSH now, then when a future buyer asks why it had one you can say 'oh thats when Toyota threw it round the workshops before pushing it in and out everyday for 2 months then they took the engine out and put it back with 1/2 the bolts in place then the apprentice took it out and ragged it up the road cause he's never seen one before (prob. how this happened), do you honestly think on a car of that age and type (if was a Merc or Bentley then maybe) FTSH is gonna make any difference , they are at that price now that any tom dick or kev can afford one when theyve sold their Saxo , do you think they care who serviced it ??? they defo wont if they work at a main agent , still if you like being ripped off and losing your car for 2-3 months keep them stamps up , BTW a lot of car dealers have a full set of stamps to cover each make of car , its very easy to get a full service history for any car , unless you phone the previous owner you can never tell !!!!

Dude, I honestly don’t think any Tom, dick or whoever can afford one of these cars, maybe a Jap N/A, or a cheap Jap Auto but not a UK Spec, and I’m sure with 1 owner and FTSH it would sell much better than not having these….come on everyone knows this, apart from a few on here!

Also I don’t think Toyota will be letting a young apprentice on this car, they have mucked up once already and this part from Japan will cost them quite a bit, the last thing they want is something else to go wrong and have to pay more for it! And I’m sure they know if anything happens when I take the car away I’ll be straight back down! What if I took it to a small garage and they just patched it up without telling me? Or rang me to say oh you must have hit a bump recently as there’s a small hole in your sump or something like that??

I thought it was known that Toyota service history was one of the best services from a dealers? Every car I’ve ever owned the person iv’e sold it onto has asked about FSH. It’s essential with a car like this.

I know where you're coming from Paul but never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

If I was to sell my car I'd show them the FSH it has with Chris (log book stamped up, receipts etc) and then ask the prospective buyer to come on the BBS and ask about Chris if they have any doubts. If they don't want to do that then that's their loss.

It depends on the car and the type of person that comes to look at it at the end of the day.
