Pete
I do find smoking offensive, but accept it when I go into a bar because we live in a democratic society, I don't have to go into the smoky bar but I chose too. Most pubs/bars are smokey when busy - so it's not much of a democracy. Either you don't drink, or you stink. Been up to the Thomas Botfield at Telford centre? Wetherspoons pub - they're great now they've banned smoking in them all. So much more cleaner atmosphere and you don't stink when you get home! Thorin
I say let the tobacco companies pay to sponsor the hospitals. This hospital sponsored by Benson & Hedges
Gordon F
Hopefully it's only a matter of time before smoking in pubs is banned in England. It happens in the ROI and Scotland, and if it works there, it will work anywhere

jagman
surely the principle is we all pay in-so we use the nhs regardless ... If you start down the smokers route ,then why should I pay for someone who has a big nose,or small tits or too big tits,or cant have kids,or has a mole or who is fat as fcuk or drives fast cars..............where do you stop? I suspect that females are more "sickly" than males so should they pay more? saying that I bet there are more blokes off sick with "football fever" at the moment

gaz1
i smoke and wish i don,t i actualy gave up for 4 years the craving eases but it is always there, i was pissed and stupid to have a fag 4 years after giving up, and now i am paying for it, i will give up again when i can syke myself up to it, maybe after this job i am on now, as for not getting hospital treatment, i don,t care as i have bupa, but i feel pretty cheated i pay an average 2.5k a month in tax and national insurance, so i think have paid for any hospital treatment i might need, i would be more inclined to be worried about the immagrants and dole scroungers than smokers

Gazboy
It's often said that the tabacco revenue outweighs the cost of tabacco related illnesses to the NHS. Which is weird because my Granddad was in and out of hospital from pretty much when I was born until he died (in hospital) when I was 21 and I'm damn sure he cost more money to fix that he actually earnt in the first place. Hell just the tablets he was on would have cost a fortune for the last ten years. He died a very long, undignified and horrible death because of smoking.
