My DBB turbo install pics

My stock UK car would look like it was on fire with all the steam coming off the bonnet in the rain. It was because I removed the fibreglass bonnet blanket thingy.

Are there no downsides to turbo blankets? Surely they increase the temperature of the turbo dramatically?

Does the EGT rise with the turbo blanket?

It's more likely to drop as the blanket keeping more heat in the turbo exhaust housing means the exhaust gases will carry down the exhaust quicker from the head / exhaust manifold... as a gas is cooled it expands.

EDIT - You measure EGT as close to the head as possible so cylinder EGT's at this point will show a very small drop from a turbo blanket I'd say but not a great deal. The blanket is more about not melting things under the bonnet!

Cheers,

Brian.

Downside is the turbo will need much longer to cooldown after a hard run. (esp non watercooled) and can cook the bearing oil after shutdown.
