Branners
In the rain I have seen steam coming off the bonnet directly above the turbo, I bought a turbo blanket straight away. JB
csa
Thought about the blanket myself, but I've got a euro spec with the scoop, so is it really necessary?

Branners
Im on a UK spec as well, its when you stop moving that the hat builds up and the bonnet vent doesnt help with that. JB
carl0s
My stock UK car would look like it was on fire with all the steam coming off the bonnet in the rain. It was because I removed the fibreglass bonnet blanket thingy. Are there no downsides to turbo blankets? Surely they increase the temperature of the turbo dramatically? AlanM
Does the EGT rise with the turbo blanket?
b_have
Does the EGT rise with the turbo blanket? Hopefully yes. Don't confuse that with being a bad thing, its the heat energy that drives the turbine. Its cylinder egt's that are important to observe.
tDR
Does the EGT rise with the turbo blanket? It's more likely to drop as the blanket keeping more heat in the turbo exhaust housing means the exhaust gases will carry down the exhaust quicker from the head / exhaust manifold... as a gas is cooled it expands. EDIT - You measure EGT as close to the head as possible so cylinder EGT's at this point will show a very small drop from a turbo blanket I'd say but not a great deal. The blanket is more about not melting things under the bonnet! Cheers, Brian.

Downside is the turbo will need much longer to cooldown after a hard run. (esp non watercooled) and can cook the bearing oil after shutdown.
