Kopite Posted June 4, 2006 Share Posted June 4, 2006 Anyone hear in the news that the ERU teams responding to the bombings have been hit with congestion charges for driving in bus lanes?! These teams were involved in removing the injured/dead, providing lighting and ensuring the tunnels were safe before anyone entered. The Telegraph says changes have been made which allowing an appeal against the fines but they can only recoup the fees is the can prove they were responding to an emergency.......... Yes...I'd much rather hear about Wayne Rooney and his broken foot every 10 minutes and what Sven likes on his toast in the morning, than be alerted to the fact that this is how beaurocratic (sp?) and pathetic everyday life has become. They want a public enquiry into it, yet when intelligence tips them off and they act on it they got told they are wrong for doing it. Gets on my tits. Andy-No-Knee Posted June 5, 2006 Share Posted June 5, 2006 The congestion charge was dropped for the day of the bombings, so as to let people get home, and IIRC it was not re-introduced until the next week. I drive fire engines, and the speed camera thing is not true (in London at least) it was a bit thing when they first came out but under the Road Traffic Act emergancy vehicles are exemt from certain bits, like speed limits IF in the course of their duties they get in the way. So when we go through a camera there is usually a engine load of firemen shouting abuse at the camera when it flashes. Saying that, they did prosicute one driver, in the photo it showed 4 arses hanging out of the windows and the drivers hands giving a 'salute', they did him for driving without due care as well has he didnt have his hands on the wheel. But if we go through a camera when not responding to a call, and on blues and twos then we are like anyone else, and can get done.
