Strut Brace Problem

Interesting, but how many cars do come with a brace from the factory, the only one that springs to mind is BMW M3 GT Special Edition...

It'll be cost saving more than anything else.

The MK2 MR2 came with an assortment of braces, front and rear, even lower ones - they are cheaply made but they are there, Toyota didn't do cost cutting in those happy days, it's only since they started producing the crap they do now that standards have slipped :)

Once, I jacked my Supra up at the front and then removed the strut brace and it was much more difficult to take off than usual because the suspension turrets had moved far enough away from each other to bind the bolts up.

So it has some effect on flex. What that translates to in the real world is an unknown though :)

From my own experience with different cars, they make a difference. They're kinda like ARB's (or sway bars depending on what you know them as) in that even if they are supplied as standard, you can usually gain a reasonable improvement by fitting an aftermarket one. A lot of our 200sx customers are running uprated ARB's as they're stiffer, thicker and in most cases adjustable too and give a significant improvement over the thin stock item for only a small amount (£115ea). I've fitted a brace to an old MK2 Golf before and the improvement in turn in ability and general cornering was amazing and I think that goes for most cars. I think the front brace makes more of a difference than a rear one does.
