cams for an n/a

squiffy

Recommended Posts

No off the shelf ones I know of specifically for the 2JZGE.

Unless you are planning to build a high reving race engine (ie. big money), then no reason to change the cams.

What is your current spec?

First place to start is to fit stock airbox back on, or at the very least fit a better pod filter.

You will get the best gains in power and response by fitting an aftermarket exhaust and removing both cats. Next step after that would be a tubular exhaust manifold.

from reading this link and the rest of the thread, If you where to change a cam on the N/a you can only change the inlet. due to addistional gear on the outlet for the distributor. And the HKS 264 would be the cam of choice??

but if you then to do a turbo conversion would they move the distributor and then you would need to upgrade the exhaust cams? or is that a none runner as the distributor doesn't get moved???

The Distributor cam be removed if using a standalone ECU such as the AEM and the ignition switched to coilpacks like the TT

Or..... you could use these. This is the only aftermarket profile for the 2jz-ge exhaust that's in existance (the Brian Crowers above are for the VVt-I, and don't have the distributor gear) . It's in a running 2jz-ge NA-T now, and it completely changed the attitude of the car. It uses the stock distributor and gear. Here is the profile:

The new profile is:

Duration.............. [email protected]

Lift........................9.14mm

Lobe Seperation...110

as i new and now doubt this is a stupid question but....

but the n/a engine is the same as the IS300 which BC take about for the cams on the 2jzge?

The Brian Crowers are for the VVT-I only. They'll work with the IS300. The SC300 and MKIV Supra NA came with the non VVt-I, and that's where these cams come in.

can any one recommend a ECU that can do this>?

You may be able to get a stock cam reprofiled, or there are umpteen cam makers who will do one offs, which would be a lot better than a regrind. Expensive though. To tune an N/A to give a lot of BHP will cost a fortune, and kill drivability. Just put a BMW straight six in from an M5 if you have some perverse desire for an N/A straight six with some serious BHP. If you are looking for a cheap alternative to a TT forget it.

Very true regarding the cams. Regrinds are not worth it IMHO. They raise the acceleration profile of the valve train in that they attack the base circle of the cam. Hardwelding only reprofiles the lobe, and leaves the base circle intact.

I will say though that our test car had an NA AEM. With the cams and a 62mm turbo, it made ~500rwhp at 17psi. That's repectable power for pump gas and low boost.

Thanks guys,

Eric
