well i bought a laptop off him not long ago, it wasent packed very well, only a laptop bag and a few small inflatable plastic bags as protection, it arrived to me with a metal rattle inside, it work for about 40mins although it kept having some sort of chipset problem when i was installing my broadband software then after 40mins it shut off and wouldnt turn on, had the laptop looked at by a specialist they gave me a report and said it was not fixable (motherboard problem), so when i was sending it back i packed it the EXACT same way i recieved it and low and behold it arrved back to him with more external damage and i never got a refund (im not fussed as your learn the hard way sometimes). I made a point of packing it the same way to show how bad it was.Thats what i meant Bry :)

Just seen this, thanks for that Robert. To be honest i was waiting for you to write something here. Seing as you've chosen for all to view this i shall add my bit.

The laptop was fully functional (apart from the battery, which you knew) for 18 months of which i owned it. It was packed in my eyes well, inside a thin laptop bag. Small inflatable packing bags were placed on the bottom of the cardboard box, all around the sides and across the top of the laptop, it was then sealed tight. I shipped it to you with a trusted courier and made sure that the extra option was taken to ensure the laptop was insured of any transport damages. You received it and pm'd me with how to install the chipset drivers, which i advised (this i had not done as i was going away for a few days and ideally needed to get it sent out that day, you were advised of this and were ok with it). You then pm'd me with another query which advised on. You then pm'd me to say that you had powered down the machine, come back to it to turn it on and couldnt. I ran through a few options with you, none of which helped. You then said you were going to take it to a shop to look at, which you did. They came to the conclusion that the motherboard was dead. You advised me of this and i said send it back to me and i will give you a full refund. 1 week later i received it. Upon opening the box, which was the same as i sent it you in, i could hear rattling. I opened the laptop bag and the entire corner of the laptop was smashed, not only the plastic casing but also the entire metal framework of the inside of the machine. The delivery box was not damaged at all. This had not been just dropped, or fallen off a table, but more like gone down an entire flight of stairs. To be honest, no wonder the laptop had a power issue, that was the least of its problems. So i was now left with a machine that left me fine, had been returned to me in pieces, and me down £125. I took many photos of the laptop and sent them to Robert, along with my mobile number asking him to call me to discuss. I basicly said to him i was not going to refund the money. I said this because, if this damage genuinly happened in transit then it was down to the courier company to pay for it. Hence me making sure when i sent it, it was insured. I had nothing to do with the courier arrangements of sending it back. I said to Robert i would refund the £25 from the goodness of my heart and I advised Robert to call them and explain what had happened, after all, that was only a phone call, and claim the other £100 from them. He did not want to even attempt this and also said that he had taken no insurance option when sending it back. In my eyes it is his responsibility (whether the laptop was dead or not) to get it back to me in one piece, it could have easily had the board replaced and been a perfectly working machine. I offered to send him the laptop back as well.

I did not want this discussed on here, but hey. I am a fare guy, plenty of people on here can vouch for that. But in this situation, i did what i felt was right. I did not hear from Robert after this.

See the pictures for yourself.

The outside of laptop was fine when it left me, and tbh im not sure the courier did damage it but hey thats my opinion. Ive used them before to send things including a laptop and this was the only damaged item. As you said the delivery box wasen't damaged which makes me wonder even more how all that damage came up. This line really annoys me though:

"To be honest, no wonder the laptop had a power issue, that was the least of its problems"

its fine though, all i know is what goes arouond comes around mate. If you were so careless to send a laptop with such bad packaging what chance was there of me getting my money back? I actually had insurance on it but i marked down on the form that the box contained a damaged laptop so how exactly could i prove they caused the damage when the actual box was completly un-damged? I certainly didnt damage the laptop as i really needed it for uni work, but believe what you like.

We aint gona agree here mate, if i had arranged the courier to send it back, i would have taken responsibility. In my eyes, it was up to you to get the part back to me in 1 piece, not several. All you wanted was a full refund, and in this situation i was not prepared to offer that.

Dont know what anyone else thinks here, and to be honest i am interested.

You have your opinion and i have mine, yes i did want a refund but honestly if you recieved a new laptop in a box with such little protection then you would not be happy either. The only reason i didnt keep on at you about a refund and tell you this and that is because ive been in situations like this before and the more you agrue the less things get sorted out. After you sent met those pics what more could i say? you say it arrived at you like that and i dont beleive you, nothing else to say.

Difficult one guys, you've both given your versions of events and I've got to say that as an outsider it's a tough call.

Don't seem you are ever going to agree a settlement which is a shame so I guess it's time to move on and both put it down to experience?

BTW, give you £75 for the Dell :D

U think i damaged my own laptop (with a spec like it had) like this to save myself £125???????? OK!

In my eyes, it was not poorly packed when i sent it out. As i've said above, i'm genuinly interested to anyone elses opinion here.

Paul, i agree with what you are saying, its very tough. I am not an arse and genuinly not trying to be difficult.

The laptop in this original thread, has been sold to someone on here, although i have not heard from him in a day or so, funny that eh! Please do not let what has been discussed in this thread, affect this sale, i am sure this 'issue' was a one off. Perhaps if something can be resolved here, it will, but it wont be a full refund.

you priced it at 125 not me, regardless of spec. Well you got the price you wanted and didnt have to refund anything as the "courier" did the damage. At the time you recieved it, it wasen't your laptop as i had paid the price you asked for. It was a great spec but no good if it didnt turn on.

no point offering anything else now as at the time it was 25 pound or nothing, people can make up their own mind, with my record having bought and sold things it speaks for itself.

As I read this there is some 'give' from your side, f*ck all to do with me but why not meet halfway, seems the fairest option?
