Just a warning to everyone who uses tesco petrol station - DO NOT use the pay at the pump set up!!

I was going out friday night - so went to get petrol. It was very busy so I decided to use the pay at pump section, inserted my clubcard, then debit card. Once the card was accepted I filled the tank. Popped my card back in to get the receipt but it didn't give me one. This has happened before if you don't put your card back in quick enough it won't give you a receipt so I didn't think anything of it.

Was home alone today and I get a phone call - a lady from the police asking if she could come to my house in the next 10 minutes. I ask if there's a problem and told no there isn't she'll be there soon.

I'm in a state as I think something has happened to my boyfriend - she turns up at the door, makes sure that the supra on the drive is mine which i say it is. She then says that tesco have reported me for driving away without paying for my petrol friday night.:(

I couldn't believe it! She'd said that she'd turned up in the morning with a van to cart me off to the police station but no one had been home!

She then looked at the cctv when they couldn't get hold of me, saw that i'd put my card in the machine which had obviously not read my card so there had been a mistake, the people at the petrol station also said that they're used to seeing my car. She took me to tesco to pay again! and left it at that.

Never been so humiliated in my life!

I still don't understand why the machine let me fill my tank up if it hadn't read my card.
