Still got problems with TC.

I thought I had sorted out my RLTC problems, but I noticed that things were not right over the last few days. I have found the right foot is doing more TC work.

Tonight I connected up my laptop to RL and drove to the test track. Nice damp road so I floored it in first. My suspicions were confirmed, no cut at all tonight, the back was all over the place, wheels spinning like crazy by the time my foot and arms had reacted to the situation, Grahams app had recorded a rear wheel speed of 173 compared with 48 for the fronts. RLTC is not working at all now.

I am still concerned that the problems all stem from the time I connected up to the RL app link posted by Chris.

I used the RL test facility to check the cut table function and all was fine. Wheel speed signals all seemed OK very close to GPS speed indication, RPM is perfect but the unit is not detecting any difference in wheel speeds even though Graham’s app is picking up four different speeds round tight turns.

I can’t get my head round this one; the only thing I can think of is the internal fixed software program has been corrupted.

Until I can sort this out I am not providing any more dats for anyone, as I always check them in my car before I send them for someone else to use. So until my RL is sorted I am not willing to risk sending anyone a dud file. Apologies to Nic, tross and Darren sorry guys.

If anyone has used the RL app have you noticed anything wrong with the driven and reference wheel positions on the little car pick.

mine would not go through the calibration routine (180deg corner). i had to do it all manually by jacking up method. i defined it all with grahams app, havent used the rltc app yet. everything seems ok, except a little too cutty on corners.

what does the green led say is happening with each of the wheels?

i take it uv transmited a completely fresh (known to work) dat file to the box (ive got to ask :))?

did u transmit from the rl app?

i'll see what the rl app says about my wheel config tomorrow.

it sounds like its picking up the difference in wheel speeds but just not doing anything about it

The first time I tried the RL app, I simply uploaded the current settings and then sent them back to the box, low and behold the wheel positions were buggered. It got the front/rear mixed up with the left/right so far as I could tell without jacking up. Luckily I noticed it immediately because the rolling radius of my fronts and rears are slightly different, so I was getting cut in a straight line at low throttle but high speed. I guess this could cause lack of slip detection with no side effects at high speed if the front and rears have the same rolling radius. Another thing, when I used the new RL app, it just disabled my control knob, the unit defaulted to the “wet” mode setting. Is it possible it’s disabled your control dial and the unit has defaulted to the “off” setting (just a thought)?

Thanks for the input guys.

I have reloaded a good dat via Grahams app so every thing should be OK, but it is not.

Good points Richard, it is behaving like it is switched off. It also scrambled the wheel positions front to rear and side to side.

I am getting wheel speed readings on the move from the diag led, but not getting pick up from all sensors when I check using the jack up and spin method.

I powered off laptop and ignition in between using the RL app and Grahams.

The only thing I have not tried is to jack the car up and spin using just the diag led to check wheel positions.

I have been driving around with the green diag led in view for the past couple of days and I think it confirms that something is wrong with my RL unit. The wheel speed indicator light, switch positions wet to 15 should flash in time with wheel speed and stop below 14 kph. Mine does this some times but other times it stays illuminated below 14kph.

If I am stationaryand rotate the switch the light sometimes comes between wet and 15% on and sometimes stays off.

I have no TC now, got the rears up to 175mph with the fronts only doing 30 in the damp tonight with RL set to wet WTF.

So I think somfink is buggered.

Any ideas

Just to say, mine has always done the above, but appears to be working fine.

  • 2 weeks later...

It looks like I have finally cracked it. RL is working again.

I was determined not to be beaten, so I checked over my RL installation to see of I had a dodgy connection, unlikely as I fitted it my self. All connections and wires to and from the RL unit, injectors ECU and ABS sensors were all intact. The only thing left was the RL ECU or the dat. My suspicions were firmly with the dat. I believe that the RL application had some how corrupted the dat, but everything visible appeared OK when viewed files with Grahams app. Yet I got absolutely no cut at all, at any level. My last strategy was to use the RL application to completely empty the RLECU of all data and create an empty trac file and reload it in to the RL unit, Then use the standard RL adaptor plug to allocate wheel settings and check using Grahams app, then load a completely empty dat and enter my settings, save and transmit.

I only got the chance to do one run up my test trac but at 70mph I got level 1 cut at WOT. Then a council gritter came toward me so I had to slow right down and tip toe home to avoid chipping my own paint with the grit being thrown up by my car. It was a huge relief to feel that dip in power induced by RL even though my foot was hard to the floor.

I will check it again in the morning just to be sure this cut was not just a fluke. I can’t understand why what I did should fix my problem. I have looked at copies of my recent dats and compared them with ones from some time ago and could not see a difference anywhere. I can only assume that the version of the RL software I down loaded had somehow altered some aspect of RL that is not visible through either application, but resetting every thing to zero, also reset some other aspect that some how was restored correctly, either by the configuration drive or the entry of new data in the form of a dat.

I will leave that for others to ponder. I am happy now as my RL seems to be active again.

It Grahams app only from now on for me:)

Phil

I have been speaking to Racelogic and talked about this problem

They are very happy to upload whichever DAT file that we choose into their units prior to being delivered to Miami-Rice (exclusively!)

Could you please send me through let me know which ones you are now 'trusting'

Currently using the one that you put on mine

Cheers
