supRo
Yeah i was reading about the school in the paper and its seems to be very fair imo. The girl seemed very arrogant on tv too i thought. In actual fact the way she has gone about doing things - arrogance, not thinking about the negative effects on others/the school are not something that a good Muslim should indulge in. Also a Muslim in a non Muslim country/environment should adjust to local customs and laws within reason. In actual fact a non-Muslim in a Muslim state has more rights than a Muslim in that state! If for example war had broken out in that state, the Muslim is required to fight but the non-Muslim citizen doesn't have to and in the event of immediate danger to the non-Muslim, the non Muslim has priority to be protected! It is the handful of individuals and groups who through their arrogance, disrespect for others and warped interpretation of religious teachings that spoil it for the rest of the minority groups that wish to get along. supra dan
Well, I used to go to the school in question and I am a Muslim. This school has a very fair and tolerant dress code policy to all religions. This policy is in line with what a Muslim girl should wear if she wishes too. This is about one individual and an arrogant person that tried to take matters into their own hands and it's the judiciary system and Cherie Blair that let her take this issue so far. I was very disappointed with the case. The Girl should have f*cked off to somewhere that would tolerate her specific dress code. She has given the school a lot of grief. This school has come so far in terms of getting good grades for the pupils - From being the worst in the area to one of the best. totally agree. they should get praise for raising the standard of education, not sued for the dress code

Sharpie
Here's one to put the cat amongst the pigeons. Has common sense prevailed at last, or it is persecution of a minority ethnic? Link here. Discuss. Don't the Police allow Sikh Turban's to be worn as part of it's uniform to accommodate Sikh's ? If we accommodate one group, should we not accommodate all groups ? Are we not a multi-cultural society today ?

Class One
Don't the Police allow Sikh Turban's to be worn as part of it's uniform to accommodate Sikh's ? If we accommodate one group, should we not accommodate all groups ? Are we not a multi-cultural society today ? We do, muslim women police officers are allowed to wear a hijab if they so wish. Jewish officers can also wear a kippah, so yes allowances are made. They were made, to encourage recruitment amongst minority ethnic groups so that the Police could better represent the society they Police. We do live in a multicultural society, probably far more tolerant than many others in the Western world, certainly in the large cities such as London, Manchester etc. But the school in question had a dress code, that was implemented in consultation with parents and the community the School serves, but this individual decided to flout that code, and then when she was excluded for her continued breach, brought race and religion into the argument. She played her card.
TRD3000GT
She played her card. Im soooo bored of the other races playing their cards.. Im not a racist and have tons or friends from all different races and religions but get this. The other day a black guy is on the high road obviously he had been up to something as he was running out of a shop with 2 security gaurds after him.. Two coppers on route just walking stopped him and asked what was going on. He immediatedly started shouting ' ITS BECAUSE IM BLACK! ' If he did not steal or take anything why was he running? Fine I dont care what he did but race has nothing to do with it! Innocent dont run.. Rant over..

Ro, I read this and something occured to me that I hadn't thought before. If, as you say, in certain Muslim states the non-Muslim citizen has more rights than the native Muslim. Maybe the immigrants in question just assume that the reciprocal is true here. So the non native has more rights than the native. If this is the case then it would appear to be a misconception that isn't being corrected. All this PC nonsense is then just serving to reinforce this belief. However I have to acnowledge that "positive" discrimination really gets my back up. Rules is Rules, they should apply to everyone. End of. There should be no re-interpretation on the grounds of religion etc. Just MHO Mike
